this is because when u paste it in paint the picture is shown in pixels (in really tiny tiny squares) u can proove this zooming any image what u could do is to wait till microsoft realises a new paint or donwload 1 like pain.net or look for others on the web but i dont recomend this cuz pixels are used to add backgrounds to images and for shadows if u eliminated pixels from a photo the photo would look plain no shadows no 3d effects it would b like drawn

I use Paint at least - repeat - at LEAST - 30-40 times each day for pictures ... altho admittedly I wouldn't mind you sharing with ME how to get the JPEG format ... as I always save, and when the dropdown box drops, it is a Bitmap - but I came upon it "accidentally" one time, didn't know I was "getting it" ... and then because I didn't know, I didn't write the steps down as to HOW I managed to get the option of saving as a JPEG rather than a Bitmap ...

BUT - to respond to your question, "my first thought" ... ??? It would be to ask are you SURE it is not your monitor that is distorting the color? Do you have a color printer? What happens when you print?! I all the computers I've owned, and some were really "old" - and finally I have my first "new" computer - a Sony ... and I LOVE IT ... but I have NEVER had color distorted from taking a picture or a page from a web site, or whatever the case may be, pressing "Print Screen" and opening Paint to Paste and save ... NOT EVER! I thus have to wonder if it is truly the PROGRAM ... or if it is your monitor?! Have you tried printing? What happens if you do not mind responding .. as I know I'm asking you questions ... but I am totally l"shocked" and was "shocked" when I saw your question ... as I "live" by Paint since discovering the Paint feature about 9 months ago - as I never knew what it was for or HOW to do it .. and then someone shared with me .. and since that day - I can honestly say "I'm SPOILED" by the paint feature ... even the ability to "create my own picture" from something either in a website, or an email picture that someone has used as stationery, etc. - I LOVE PAINT! But never has any picture become color distorted - not even a "little bit" ... However, if you have XP - and happen to have "Office 2003" - Microsoft now gives the "option" of a TRUE ability to edit photos, colors, contrast, etc. - called Microsoft Photo Manager ... and can be used, the same as the "Windows Fax" mode of looking at your various Bitmaps, JPEGs, etc. - so if the photo IS distorted, and IF you have 2003, simply "undistort" by editing the colors yourself through the Photo Manager ... Just an idea ... but I have also used this feature more times than naught - and love the capabilities, options and the personal preferences, including the ability to enlarge photos that perhaps are "too small" for a desktop screensaver, etc. - and the ability to take a small picture and increase the size tremendously - and of course, however, like most pictures - even from cameras, it depends on the number of pixels, etc. as to how much "in focus" the picture is the larger one makes it ... but for the most part, again, I've usually been able to obtain what I am looking for in creating a larger picture that has clear, clean and definitive objects within the photo ...

I would definitely appreciate it if you would respond and share with ME how to get the JPEG format ... I would really appreciate that and I wish I could help you more ... but I would tend to THINK it may be your monitor ... again asking - what happens when you PRINT? Do the same color distortions appear as they appear "on screen" while in the Paint mode? Thanks and I wish I could be of more help ... God Bless!

Programs like paint prefer the .bmp (bitmap) extensions, while programs like photosuite like the .jpeg.. Yes you can correct this problem, before sending the pic to paint, save as .bmp, and work with it, also when you save as in paint it will give you multiple choices as to what extension to save in................... When you cross ( extensions ) .jpeg into paint, then the pixels reduce alot, vice-versa........................it is all about the compression ratio.. Read about it....

Well its because there isnt enough colors in paint to display it normally. I don't know how to change this.
