The history of food items which may have served as the roots of modern pizza can be traced to the ancient Greek colony of Naples in Magna Graecia (southern Italy)[1][2] [citation needed]. Such products arguably have their first written mention in Book VII of Virgil’s Aeneid:

Their homely fare dispatch’d, the hungry band
Invade their trenchers next, and soon devour,
To mend the scanty meal, their cakes of flour.
Ascanius this observ’d, and smiling said:
“See, we devour the plates on which we fed.”

It originated in Naples, Italy and was just a very basic pizza. Crust, sauce sliced mozzarella and a bit of basil and it is called "Pizza Margarita" and is the colors of the Italian flag. It came to this country with the immigrants into New York

Both. Most today consider it to be Italian. However, there is a Greek pizza style, baked in a pan instead of directly on the oven, and Greek influence is evident in modern pizza. Check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_pizza for more information.

Pizza is of Italian origin. Back in the 40's nobody outside the coutnry had heard of it until a small pizzeria opened in the U.S.A. and from then it spread like wildfire. You need to spend more time educating your daughter, no offense!

neither it is Chinese Marco polo brought it over to Italy in a thick form and the Italians made it thick and put different stuff on it and claimed it their idea. the same thing with pasta the Chinese invented the noodle and past and the Italians took it and put some red sauce on it and claimed it theirs. no offense but Italians were bastards and most of them still are. but some Italians are really nice i have a lot of Italian friends.
