You get a runner's high when large amounts of endorphins are released during and/ or after a long run. And yes, there most definitely is such a thing. I usually get it at the 4th or 5th mile.

I ran cross country and long distances most of my life. There is DEFINITELY such a thing!

The runner's high is a result of endorphins being released in the brain. This happens when a person exorcises in general, not just when they run; however, since runners usually sustain a more vigorous pace for a longer duration, the effects of the endorphins tend to be more noticeable for them.

If you'd like to experience it yourself, put your sneakers on and go for it! Just remember to stretch before and after.

Happy running!

I have experienced a runners high before. While not an avid runner, I usually run 5 miles per day at about 7 miles per hour. I have only felt this "runner's high" on occasion. Recently, I decided to set goals to increase my speed and distance. Every day, I set the treadmill to go 1/10th of a mile per hour faster. Eventually after about a month, I was running 8 miles at 9 miles per hour.

These runs exhausted me, but for the last mile or so, I felt truly invincible. I felt impervious to fatigue and almost like I could do anything! It really is an empowering and exciting feeling. The tiredness just kind of left me--- It's hard to explain- It was more than just a "second wind", but it was nothing like an orgasm.

This feeling drove me back to the gym to continue running faster and faster, but eventually I became too tired during the day and had to scale back to 5 miles per day.

Good luck to you!

I get runner's high after I finish my run.

It's a feeling like you are mildly intoxicated (the first drag of a cigarette, the first sip of wine, etc.)

I know other runners that get it while they run, but my runs are an hour max, and I haven't achieved the high yet while running.

A runners high is when you run and you feel good. It's because your body produces endorphins and i think ur body also produces this chemical called opiods that are like endorphins on steroids. It makes you feel good.
run a few miles and u'll know what i mean.

How long have you been running? If you've been running for awhile, you'll get to a point when you're running and you feel just great, like you could just run forever. This is really fun too. I get it when I teach my aerobic classes, after we've been going for awhile, it's great. You will get it, the more you train, you'll achieve it after you've been running for awhile and your body kicks into automatic. It's a "training state" and it comes after you've been doing the running for awhile, for some time.

Yes, if you exercise a lot your brain releases endorphins which are "happy horomones" that give you that ecstatic feeling of euphoria.
