Kung Fu generally gets you more flexible and fit. I find that TKD is more practical and based in reality and not based on countering some exotic move or attacking some small part of the opponent in some bizarre way.
That said, Bruce Lee made a lot out of his start with Wing Chun, so I would say there are some benefits for hand speed and such with that. And other styles can give you different benefits.
But I think TKD, if applied right and taught well is more similar to kick boxing and is more practical.
Kung Fu will have more difficult and longer forms, I believe.
But if you really want practical, you should go grappling

depends on the teacher
if you found a good kung fu teacher ( which is very rare ) who doesn't charge a million dollars for his lessons, by all means - learn from him
there are like hundreds of kungfu styles all over the world, but all of them trains your physical and spiritual sides. If you train hard and long enough ( at least 6-7 years ) you will achieve an amazing benefit : health
kungfu is something you learn and train all your life
TKD is no doubt more effective in the short term, but it relies too heavily on the physical and you will find that as you get older, your tae kwon do weakens
TKD has a lot less nonsense than kungfu, you can learn simple methods of how to defend yourself / how to kick quickly in just 1-2 year, but a long time to master
a three year student of TKD can definitely kick the crap out of a three year student of kungfu
but a 20 year kungfu practitioner can probably do a LOT of amazing things, and it only gets better as they get older
if you CAN'T find a good kungfu teacher, then go learn something else. don't just learn from the nearest kungfu teacher who's available

Better at building strength? Kung-Fu because of all the different stances and forms.
Teaches more sparring? Neither is very good but Tae-Kwon-Do is the better of the two.
Kung-Fu is known for flashy moves that do well in tournaments. It has the different fighting styles taken from the movements of animals. Crane, Tiger, Monkey, etc.
Tae-Kwon-Do is known for kicking. They do alot of high, jumping, flashy kicks.
Kung-Fu uses alot of neat weapons and has more forms to learn.

alreat alreat. the correct answer is kung fu. U are soo ignorant and stupid if u think a TKD (tae kwon do) guy can take a Kung Fu guy. TKD is most known for kicks. Kung Fu is known for fighting styles. SO as a experienced street fighter. Kung Fu is definately more do able. If u tried to kick me in the head and u are a few .01 sec's to slow u will be the one on the ground.
TKD. mostly sport and kicking
Kung FU very hard to learn (one of the hardest) and harder even to find a good place to learn at!
SO if u want to do some real %^$% then u do kung fu over TKD. In TKD u spar but its a point system, not knocksome out type of thing. If u are in TKD and u think u can knock everyone out then u are stupid . If u are in kung fu and think u can knock everyone out then its more believeable, because its how it is man.
TRUST ME IF U DO KUNG FU OVER TKD U WILL THANK ALL OF US WHO SAID DO KUNG FU. MAKE SURE U FIND A GOOD PLACE.
THIS ANSWER AND ALL ANSWERS THAT SAID KUNG FU HELPS!
LOL
IF U DO TKD, IN 3 YEARS U WILL BE KICKING URSELF ONCE U FIND OUT THAT A CHUMP BEAT U UP BECAUSE U TOOK HIS PARKING SPACE
IF U DO KUNG FU IN 3 YEARS U WILL BE STRONGER AND MORE UNDERSTANDING AND U CAN TAKE ANYONES PARKING SPACE BECAUSE U HAVE MOTION!!!!!!!
KUNG FU KUNG FU
U ARE SOOOOOOOO STUPID IF U TAKE TKD, SOOO DUMB
I WILL FIND U AND BURN YOUR HOUSE IF U TAKE TKD MAN I SWEAR. U ARE DOING THE COMPLETELY WRONG THING IF U TAKE TKD.

Kung Fu is more into style, Tai Kwon Do is more into forms
Kung Fu is more flexible, hands more than legs kick
Tai Kwon Do is more on chips and kicks
Kung Fu has more varieties.. Tai Kwon Do is another form of Karate.
Kung Fu has fast and slow, Tai Kwon Do is always the fast one.
Kung Fu can be trained for anyone, Tai kwon do should be started as kids
Kung Fu is not as practical as Tai Kwon Do as in street fight or self defense...

depends on what type of kung fu.
Some styles of kung fu suck balls. Some dont....
there are over 1000 styles of kung fu.
most are never heard of. My shaolin KF class does WAY more stretching and working out than any TKD class ive been too.
Its all dependant on the instructor, and style.
If the style has exercises, and the instructor doesnt employ them, they dont do any good. If your a good fighter, your a good fighter, you can fill in the holes to any system.
Even if the instructors, dont employ exercise, you can do it at home, and thus be entire dependant upon you.
Problem is, 99.9 percent of people retire to the couch after a little bit of pushing themselves. People by themselves, tend not to push as hard. Instructors WATCH you workout on a regular basis, they probably have a REALLY good idea, of how hard you should be pushing if they are any good at what they do.
Good luck

Kung fu, hands down. It will take longer to master, but it is probably the best all around combined defense and physical development system known. It also teaches self-mastery as all martial arts should, but because of the slow, yet difficult, exercises and pace, it requires more dedication and patience than the other arts.
My opinion

I gave this answer somewhere else, but here it goes again. Depends. Visit ALL of the martial arts schools available to you. Find an instructor, student body and atmosphere that speaks to you. If you're not going to stick with it past 6 months, it is of no use to you. See for yourself what each of these schools are teaching and how they are doing it. Some schools of each style are fluff and some of each have substance. Also, look at what other programs are offered by the respective schools that might round out your education. There will usually be more than one style taught at any one school.
