It appears that this book must be taken as a whole. The part you are reading appears to be a judgement against Israel for worshiping false Gods. Later, (2:1-3) is a call for penence. A difficult to understand portion. Further indictments (3:1-8) then salvation (3:9-13) and finally God's reign as King of Jerusalem (v14-20). Your quote should have more accurately been 1:2-18.

He is not evil, He is just and faithful to forgive. If you took the time to try and get some understanding, you could see that clearly he is wroth with all the people for their idol worship, and because they stopped seeking guidance from HIM. Even the priests, who were supposed to be holy were worshiping idols. Instead of seeking and asking blessings from him, they instead bowed to the sun, moon and the stars, all things which were made by him, they turned into graven images. Yeah the Old Testament does apply, so that we may learn from the mistakes of those who refused to turn again and seek God's Grace and Mercy.

It is interesting that you can't decide if God is evil or if He is fake -- the two are rather contradictory.
As far as the passage you have quoted, I certainly agree that it is horrifying, but you need to look at the context. After centuries of disobedience, and extra chances again and again, the people hear the prophet warning them of what will come if they don't repent. Prophecies in the Bible are often conditional rather than absolute, thus the stronger the wording of the prophecy is, the more chance there is that the people will come to their senses and turn back to the Lord, who will then not have to bring judgment on them.
God is not evil (and I'm not crazy, LOL)

God is not evil. He's the most righteous, good, loving thing that's every been, which is why He has to power and the right to destroy evil things. The people who were worshipping Baal/Molech were evil and unrepentant, so they should have been destroyed.
I believe this is a prophecy and is yet to happen. If God's chosen people will not turn from their evil ways and worship Him and Him alone, yes they will be destroyed. As will all unrepentant people........Jewish or not.

It's best if you get over the anti-God thing. There are better things to do than to actively try to campaign against chrisitanity, especially in this picking-apart-the-bible manner. You can find many things in the bible to support a claim that the God of the Old Testament is cruel and warlike if you are looking for them. Equally you can find many examples of great wisdom and self-sacrifice in the bible. If you are truly opposed to Christianity use that energy somewhere productive, like in the support of science which is diametrically opposed to blind religious faith in that it requires the questioning mind, instead of silencing it with the requirement of faith, which is in essence a lack of knowledge.

He has promised to do it again soon. All the non-believers will burn at his return to earth the second time to rule. He does this to cleanse the earth for his chosen people or those who chose to follow him may be a better way to say it. Being wiped off this earth by God does not necessarily mean that you will go to hell. He gave us this body and if we don't respect him he can chose to take it sooner than it would naturally be turned back into dust and ashes. Even those who he wipes off this earth will be resurrected with their perfect body and go through judgment. A kingdom will be appointed upon judgment for every one.

First of all, read from a real translation like the NASB or the New King James Version. Secondly, God is holy, and He cannot wink at sin. If God didn't punish sin then He would be evil, but He is not evil, He is holy, which is why He punishes sin. Furthermore, God is patient, He gives people lots of time to repent, but they never did. For example, God gave people 100years to repent before the flood of Noah, but they never repented. God said He would spare Sodom if there were just 10 righteous people in the whole entire city, yet there were not even 10. God does not enjoy punishing people, but at a certain point He has to because He is holy, and because sin spreads like a cancer. Read Ezekiel 18. God does not take pleasure in the death of anyone who dies. Also, Romans 5:8 says: "But God demonstrates His own love for us in this, while we were yet sinners Christ died for us." John 3:16 says "For God so loved the world He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life." In either 1st or 2nd Peter, I can't remember which, it says that God "is patient toward you, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance." I believe that when babies die, they go to Heaven because based on God's character which is just and gracious, because babies don't know anything, and also because when king David had a baby that died he expected to see his baby again in Heaven. King David said: "He will not come to me, but I will go to him." God is gracious, love, merciful, patient, slow to anger, abounding in love, but He is also holy and just. He is all of these things. I feel real sorry for you for not believing in the Holy God. He will destroy those who don't believe in their hearts that He is the only God and turn from their wicked ways. Wicked meaning, of the Devil.....If you don't believe in Him, then why are you so upset about trying to convince yourself that the REAL Bible is not the truth??? God Bless you and have Mercy on you.

When Jesus died for us , the new law began.
You people kill me
You try to talk about things that you have no idea about and you try to make bad things out of good things
The New testament covers us today...BECAUSE of the sin of Adam and Eve
