KMS makes a product (similar to Sun-In *BAD*) called Color Vitality something. You put it on your hair and hang out in the sun a bit and it will lighten or use some lemon juice and do the same thing.
I'm not sure why your color didn't change when you colored it-unless you were actually already that same color. It may lighten a bit after a few washes when the toning portion of the color begind to fade. I'd have to see your hair to really figure this out, but you are right not to put more color on your hair. It would damage it. I'd wait until you need your roots done and then apply the color to your roots and then the last few minutes(20 max) pull the color through your ends. Or see a pro who can lighten you abit with a few highlights or color you all over to get your color back on the right track. In the mean time try the above suggestions and get a good conditioner to prepare your hair for your next coloring.

You can put lemon juice in your hair and go out into the sun..
Or you can buy lightening foam which you put in your hair everyday to lighten it up more, you don't get a drastic change in once go, but the more you use it the better result's.
I think sunsilk does a good one in a blue bottle with a pump lid

Put some lemon juice in your hair and then lay out in the sun. It should lighten it up, or at least give you some natural-looking highlights

Put lemon juice in your hair then stay out in the sun for little bit. Your hair will be significantly lighter and it won't look fake. My cousin does it and her hair looks fabulous!

Go out in the sun more, like, go to the beach or something. But don't forget to wear sunscreen! The sun makes your hair lighter.

Put lemon juice in it. Then keep it in the sun. This sounds dumb, but it really lightens your hair. It takes a little while though.
