I am about to turn 17, 5'10" and weigh about 179 lbs. I am a little overweight. Why is it that when I try to do certain excersices to work out my shoulders or chest or byceps, that I get red lines that look like stretch marks? Will these go away or turn into stretch marks? Should I try to lose the weight first before starting weights?

People are either genetically prone to get stretch marks or not. I don't think that gaining a little weight has anything to do with it. I do think that growing very fast has a lot to do with it. If the red marks go away after you cool down and are done working out they probably are not stretch marks; however, if they don't go away then they probably are. Make sure you drink plenty of water, this helps the elasticity in your cells, try using less weight and more reps instead of large amounts of weight with low reps. Hope this helps

Try these. Consult a doctor if the marks gets out of control.

Remedial measures for stretch marks:

- Applying collagen creams, even though its benefits are still unclear so check it up with your doctor before applying any lotions.

-Cocoa butter creams are said to do wonders to your skin as it softens scars.

-Applying olive oil and Vitamin E oil which would help in getting rid of the stretch marks.

-Mixture of 1/2 cup virgin oil, 1/4 cup aloe vera gel including liquid of 6 Vitamin E capsules and liquid from 4 Vitamin A capsules mix then together and store it in the fridge to be applied daily.

-Have a healthy diet which has plenty of protein and is rich in Vitamin C and Vitamin E, which helps in tissue growth.

-Mixture of any carrier oils like avocado, sweet almond, jojoba mixed with drops of lavender and few drops of chamomile can still do wonders on your skin.

-Massaging your body with most of these oils would tone your body making it more supple and soft.

-There is laser treatment which can be done when they are still sore and red.

-Surgery is also another option given to remove those stretch marks

your body is growing faster than your skin can stretch. Use cocoa butter and drink plenty of water. Skin needs to be hydrated from the inside also.
