No way, it's always the people that break with tradition that make the greatest advances.

Being a little different is not a bad thing, it may show that you are a creative person. But it can become a bad thing, in a situation where your creativity is being interpreted as rudeness, or as an attempt to control someone else, and messes with someone else's life.
My friend was a free spirit, an artist, she came and went when she thought she should, she was never on time, couldn't be bothered trying to call and say I'll be late. Everyone worked around her, forgave her, she is so nice otherwise comments made. But enough became enough, and I like others, having been left standing, waiting, on a hot day, and being stood up, ]she never commented on what had happened], said enough, and stopped being around her, and when I had to, telling her an earlier time to be there than everyone else. she got the message, and has almost stopped it. The latest, I went to her, she had been hurt in an accident,[I work the night shift] to take care of her, she said her husband leaves for work at 10 am, and to be there them. I was, having not slept that night, my night starts about 6-7 am.. They had just got up, still in their PJs. She said, I should have known you would be on time. I should have said yeh, and went home.
So, a little unorthodox is OK, a lot loses you friends, and makes people angry, and not wanting to invite you to the important milestones in their life, for fear you will screw them up.

Not if you're unorthodox it isn't. Then being orthodox is a bad thing. Why? People with little power between the ears always finding fault I guess.

If you truly are unorthodox then it's just fine. If you only do it because you're so desperate to stand out in a crowd, then it's just sad and transparent.

Being unorthodox is interesting. Sometimes it's thought-provoking. In and of itself, it's never bad, just different.
Being rude or mean or inconveniencing people needlessly...that is bad.

Only if it is appropriate to the situation, and no one gets physically or emotionally hurt (i.e. Crazy driving that endangers the passengers & others on the road, wearing a swimsuit to a Black Tie affair, making obnoxious remarks that will hurt someone's feelings).
You get the idea. Otherwise, express yourself to the max!
