I always like the American Girl books. Kirsten, Samantha, and Molly were always my favorites.
Goosebumps were cool back in the day. Spooky, but fun.
Harry Potter is big with kids your age.
Black Beauty, Huck Finn, and Tom Sawyer are classics.
Roald Dahl books like Matilda, James and the Giant Peach, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
All of these you can check out at the library.
Have fun reading!

The Narnia Series by CS Lewis
Louisa May Alcott - Little Women, Good Wives, LIttle Men,
Walter Dean Myers - Malcolm X Biography
Avi - What do fish have to do with anything
Judy Bloom -- anything she has written
Roald Dahl -- anything he has written
?? -- There is a girl in the boy's bathroom
The Great Brain Series (I don't remember who wrote these but they are funny)
Money Hungry (again I don't remember who wrote this but I think it was Sharon Flake)
Sharon Flake - The Skin I'm In
??? - Tears of A Tiger
Your local library (or school library) should have most if not all of these. I just read over the books people have suggested to you, there are some GREAT books on that list. GOOD LUCK! Some like A BOY CALLED IT can be really hard to read (because it is a true story) and others like The Outsiders may be easier for you to relate to in a couple of years, but still keep them all in mind for your future reading as well.

Ok I am a fifth grade teacher and here are the books my students have enjoyed! "Tuck Everlasting" by, Nicole Babbit. And to correct one of your other answers the book is titled "Tales of a 4th Grade Nothing" by, Judy Blume; this is the first book in a series of 4 (5 if you count "Otherwise Known As Sheila th Great"). All of those are good and funny too, I even enjoy reading them. "The Mouse and the Motorcycle" series by Beverly Cleary is also good.
All of the "Little House on the Prairie" books are a good read. "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" by Rolad Dahl is fun to read too because you can compare it to both the old movie and the new one.

When I was in the 5th grade, I had to read Where the Red Fern Grows. It is a really good book and pretty popular too.

Those are all great books. You may want to ask your librarian to recommend some others. Also, a lot of libraries have used bookstores associated with them or if not they usually sell the "old" books.
