Trying to convince your dad might be a "not going to happen matter". First line up some prospects of people who will let you mow their lawns. Then go to a lawn repair shop and they will usually let you rent a mower real cheap. They also have cheap used ones for sale. Always do a very good, class A job. After you've earned enough to buy your own mower your profits will increase.
Doing this will show your dad...and yourself how enterprising and mature you are becoming.Your problem solving and ability to handle this will result in even better things happening in your future.

How old are you? I'm only asking because that might have something to do with what your dad is saying here. Also, how responsible have you been with money and odd jobs in the past? Maybe you're dad is worried that he'll shell out for the lawnmower, you'll mow a few yards, and then you'll get tired of it...and he'll be stuck with the mower.

Find a way to convince him that you are committed to the idea of doing something on a regular basis. Do chores he asks you to do regularly--and this will help him gain confidence in your responsibility. Or ask him what would convince him that you are indeed responsible and will continue to be responsible with regard to the mower. What he asks--within reason, of course--do it regularly, until he sees that you're for real.

Good luck!

I would recommend starting to do other things to raise money. Give him a cut of it, the both of you put it away and tell him this is towards that lawn mower. It will give you credibility and he will see that you really are serious about your venture. Most kids will tell there parents that they want to do this or that and end up giving up on the whole thing. Leaving a hugh hole in the parents pocket book. Lawn mowers are expensive, so I do see your fathers reservation. Clean neighbors sheds, windows, move furniture etc as examples to make extra money. Lots of people need these things done and if your reasonably priced YOU will get work. Good luck!

He won't give you the cash to GET the lawnmower or he won't let you get a lawn mower? If it's an issue of not giving you the cash, then let him pay directly for the mower...look for a used one on Craig's list or something. But if he doesn't want to spend ANY money, then maybe you can walk dogs or pick weeds for money - it won't cost YOU a thing and you can keep all the profits!

Or, hey - most people have lawn mowers, so use theirs on their own lawns!!!!

Well just tell him YOU will use it! That would get my dad running to the mower store. He doesn't run much O_-
Now that I see you want it to make some money that is a little different. Maybe a push mower for this year and make enough cash to buy a gas powered one next year. You get a great workout while you are at it too!. Very commendable, he should be proud take care ~A~
I found my first push mower at a garage sale, that way you save your Dad money too. Best of luck I know you will do well !

possibly somehow come up with some of the money now for the lawnmower to help pay for a percentage and tell your dad that youll give him the rest when you get paid for mowing other lawns. and what kind of parent wont let their kid make money the old fashion way?

sell your old things on ebay or in a yard sale, like jeans you never wore. buy a cheap second hand push mower from someone at a yard sale. if anything, offer to "rent" a neighbors lawn mower to do your mowing business. tell them you'll mow thier lawn for free if you can borrow it for the day. work hard! earn enough money to move up to a better one! don't depend on everyone else for what you need, be resourceful and you'll make it far.

You could break the push mower

You could bug him.

or you could tell him you would mow lawns faster becuz you have the lawnmower to let you have the access of cuttin more lawns in the same time..

or you could find a different job.... but if you really like cutting lawns, let this option b ur last resort
I hope this has helped you..

If you are really serious about it, why not start asking neighbors if you could do odd jobs like pulling weeds, raking leaves, painting, etc. That way you could show your dad that you are serious about wanting to start your own venture. Maybe he might even agree to go in half with you on a lawn mower.

It's really not that exciting...just so you know.
But why not offer to mow your own lawn for free.
Look in that paper (classifieds) for cheap mowers and check the local section of ebay. Maybe if it's cheap enough you're dad'll spring for one.
