I'd give them back their $500.00 if you can't pay off the loan and give them a clear title. You can't legally sell a car without a clear title. Giving them back their money is both the right thing to do and will cost you a lot less in the end.

Give them their money back. If they take you to court they will win hands down. You do not have the title for the car. Selling a car that you do not legally own is fraud. Save your skin and buy back the car immediately.

you can sell the car as long as YOU pay off the bank if the loan is not transferable. did the buyer agree to take over payments? if not, pay the bill. or get the car back and refund the money. you still may be obligated to the buyer. check with an attorney before you land in jail.

you have to pay the car off to the loan holder to get the title...
when yous ell it ask for your remaining balance..or take offers where you can make up a small amount to the company...
when you pay the company the remaining amount..you get the title...give the title to the new owner

If you don't have the title, you don't own the car. If you don't own the car, you can't sell it. Enjoy your jail time.

And I suppose you just let the buyer keep the plates registered in your name on it, also?
