Only in your dreams. Any car that you buy for $1000.00 will probably need another $1000.00 or more in repairs and in will still be a rust bucket of bolts.

Look hard in the local classifieds for inexpensive, well used, aging Hondas, Toyotas, and Saturns (which, the early ones at least, are surprisingly durable and reliable)

Speaking of which I saw an ad fo a mid 90's Saturn with 180K miles the other day for under $1,000. Don't know the exact condition, but it sounded decent and driveable.

Try to find a Daewoo or Kia with about 70K miles on it. Drive it while you're still earning money. When you get enough to buy another car, you should be able to sell the first one for nearly what you paid for it.

Look at Ebay. You can get a car with slight body damage as long as it runs well.

Check with trusted friends and trusted relatives - and if you know someone who works for a car dealership or used car lot would be a big help - other wise remember BUYER BEWARE!@

craigslist is a good place to start. it might take a week or two for a good car to come for that price but it will come and once you see it go get it, and don't wait a week to go see it becuase it will be sold by then. good luck
