I had a cystoscopy today and the doctor found a small tumor in my bladder. He didn't talk tom e, by the time I woke up he was in the OR again, but he told my mother that those aren't usually found in someone my age(24) Anyway, my question is, is it possible to have a tumor and it not be cancerous? I see him in a week..and by then the lab results will be in. But reading articles online scare me because they all say cancer.

Not all tumors are cancer - but even noncancerous tumors can cause major problems. Cancerous tumors spread to other organs and the cells keep multiplying in a non-structured way. Noncancerous tumors are usually more structured growths and can get very big but stay in the one area where found - like a fibroid tumor. Noncancerous tumors do not metastasize. It is hard to say what your doctor found at this point. If your doctor is happy waiting a week that is a good sign. Sometimes when they suspect cancer they see you sooner not later. It sure would have been nice if the doctor had talked to YOU, since you are the patient.

yeah not all tumors are cancerous, try and be positive and dont stress (i know that would be very difficult in you situation) but it's best to wait til you get you lab results whether to start worrying or not...i know when i get a blood test done i spend all the time stressing out that they are going to find something seriously wrong with me and every possible thing goes through my mind with what it could be. but that's just wasting energy cause when the results come back they are normally fine. And try not to read stuff about it on the internet, because sometimes that can only make things worse, you may have similar symptoms to what you are reading, but everyone is different, so dont think what you are reading is what you have, I do that too so i need to take some of my own advice!! I hope really hope your results are normal good luck!!

There are 2 types of tumors, benign and malignant. Benign tumors are quite common and don't cause any direct harm. Malignant tumors are the ones that cancer falls into.
Don't panic until the lab results are in.

No, not all tumors are cancerous--some are benign. If you are twenty four years old he should have come back when you were awake to talk to YOU--not your mother. That is a terrible thing for a doctor to do and even worse to make you wait a WEEK to find out. He might be a good doctor but his behavior is inexcusable.

All tumors aren't cancerous, not to scare you or anything but most of them are. I hope to God that it isn't though, I've had to deal with a ton of cancer relatives in my life. If you wouldn't mind, e-mail me at sundaeonasunday@yahoo.com if it is cancerous, you don't have to though, just a little curious since cancer in people your age isn't very common. God bless you!
