It sounds like you feel the need for attention. This may be because you don't have enough confidence in yourself to be alone. You should work on your strengths as a person, do things that you like. Spend time working on your hobbies and passions. When you like yourself as a whole. . . you will be less likely to demand attention from others. While it is still good to be involved with other people, you are not going to be happy with who you are until you are who you want to be.

It's normal to feel good when people are impressed by you. You shouldn't feel down if someone else is getting the attention, everyone has something special about themselves. Are you the only child? Maybe you're used to getting all the attention at home? Maybe it's the opposite, and you're bit used to attention...when you get it out of your home you crave it. I'm not sure, you didn't give too much info. Regardless, realize you're special in your own way, but other people are too. You can't have all the attention all the time. Appreciate it when you get it, and don't look into it too much.

Wow, some pretty decent advice for a change, you are lucky you got good respondents. The one thing that popped into my head is allot like what they are saying. If you see someone else getting attention, do not look at it as you are less, look at it as you are happy for them that they get to experience that good feeling to. Then you can pat yourself on the back for being a really good person and give yourself a little attention. We all have felt that way at times.

I think you are pretty normal ! Do not be so concerned. Try to be happy with yourself and do not place much value on the opinion of others.
By the time your grand children are out of college, it will not make any difference at all.

Gee, can't tell you why, but if you're up for it speaking with a psychologist may be very useful.
