It varies from branch to branch, unit to unit. There's a definite funding crunch in place that impacts fuel/ammo budgets for training. The more technology-dependent units (like aviation) can escape most of the crunches, but others (such as infantry) suffer until right before deployment, when the coffers open up and the government impact cards get tossed around.
You have places like Fort Sam Houston, unable to pay its electricity bills for the last three months, and Fort Bragg, with a moratorium on stationary purchases until the next fiscal year. The defense budget isn't simply large enough to sustain ops in Iraq and Afghanistan, reconstitute and re-equip units returning to CONUS, and have a fulfilling training budget. The funds simply aren't there. Something gives way. A lot of that is training.
Keep in mind too a lot of the AIT training many of the branches give is insufficient; units down the chute have to take essentially untrained personnel and work with them for anywhere from a few months to up to a year. Even active duty Army infantry is not required to qualify on small arms more than once every six months; National Guard is required to qualify only once a year.
In terms of sending rounds downrange, burning POL (Petroleum-Oil-Lubricants) in field problems and training for the job instead of sitting in on sensitivity classes and sensing sessions, there is a big problem in the service branches, with not having the desired time or funds. Again, I state some avoid this far better than others, but it is a curse that is all too prevalent today.

LOL, some of you have no idea...things have progressed since the War on Terror there have been many lessons learned and improvements are made daily...there is not one person who criticizes that could plan and execute like the United States Armed Forces...must be why we are THE super power...mmmm, something to think about (for those of you with enough of a brain to do the logical thinking)

Yes. It is common knowledge (I thought) that United States fighter pilots are the best trained in the world. I was in the Air Force for six years and the training I received was world class, way better than anything I have received in the civilian world.

i will not be able to respond to for the Marine Corps, yet as a militia veteran (lively and reserve), i comprehend that the army promises a ton of school advantages. in case you're thinking approximately reserve accountability by using college however, i might recommend observing the nationwide preserve. i don't comprehend the place you're from, yet i comprehend that the Massachusetts nationwide preserve promises one hundred% training for college. distinctive states have distinctive deals. the army reserve will pay 75% training. easily save around, because of the fact the money for guidance is presented, yet you'll be arranged to circulate distant places to Iraq. i substitute into despatched there as a reservist, and different my platoon (college young infants) have been bowled over that we've been called. (they simply joined for the college investment). good success.

The Infantry, yes; support units, probably not. The National Guard. No way!!
In the Army you are supposedly considered to be a grunt first, and your MOS second!

Usually, though I wonder about these days when we keep sending more and more troops out if we are going too fast for some. They do hold back those that can not meet certain requirements
