I am not exactly sure how to answer this because I don't know the circumstances in their complete form. A topic to catch the attention of a group depends on the group, as well as the setting. If it is an ideal setting with seniors then you may want to talk about things that pertain to them.
If it is focused on high school students in a school auditorium you might want to talk about issues like school lunch and possibly things like that.
