...the girl sat at the kitchen table and watched me perform fancy tricks with my mum's best glassware, but my mum walked in which startled me and caused me to loose concentration as I was juggling her fancy dishes? The dishes all broke as you may have guessed!

Or should I even apologize because it's my mum's fault that the dishes fell because she startled me?

(And, no, I do not live with my parents; I just visit them, and I recently arrived back from a holiday to visit them.)

Thank you!

Cherry_Blossom: For the past few summers, I have spent my holidays in the southwestern Russian Federation to visit my parents because they still live there, and that's where I spent the first 22 years of my life. I guess I was just too excited to be back home!

Why do your parents always walk in on you when you are entertaining drunk women?? They have no respect for you whatsoever...if they did they would realize that they need to give you the space you need to perform this much needed public service. Not enough young men take home drunk women and feed them ice cream and do magic tricks for them...you are saint.

Now you know I almost couldn't stop laughing when I read this question...you really did have me rolling there for a bit. However, yes, you should apologize for both her drinking too much and the broken dishes. What you could do is find out where your mom bought the dishes from, and go out and buy her some more to replace the ones that are broken. When you give them to her also tell her how much you love her. Your mother did not do anything incorrectly as it is her house and she is allowed to go into her kitchen any time she wishes. Just out of curiosity, where did you go for holiday that made you get so wild? ;-)

Shame on you, (LOL) sheesh can't even juggle dished when startled. Your fault, buy new dishes and apologize to mom, your not a little child any more and you shouldn't have been juggling the dishes. Of course it is better then having your mum walk in on you when your having sex.

Yeah, you should apologize not just for juggling her fancy dishes, and breaking them, but also for bringing home a strange drunk girl to your parents house without their permission. I don't care how old or "independent" you are, it's still their home. why don;t you think or sober up before you do something immature like that again. And buy her new plates.

If it makes you feel better, go ahead and apologize but I say, if you failed the first time juggling...try again! maybe with some cheaper glassware...I think it's romantic that you were trying to impress a drunk girl with fancy tricks.

Well this is a difficult problem as on one part of you should respect your mother, even if she may not entirely be in the right. The best thing to do in this situation is apologise to your mother, as that shows her respect in her own house and shows you to be the gentleman, if you are still trying to impress this drunk lady. However you should explain the situation to your mother, in case the distress of her dishes being broken is clouding her judgment. That this is a talent and skill she should be proud of and she should realise her son is a born entertainer. As with all artists there will be mistakes, but sometimes that is all part of the path to perfection. You should also thank your mother for interrupting you as she is teaching you a further key part to your skill - that of learning to carry on regardless of distractions. I hope this helps, my friend.

Normally I'd say no, because it *was* her fault.

But, she is your mother after all. She may have forgotten you were in the house, since it was late at night & she was probably sleepy. She probably didn't realize you were in the kitchen. just getting up to get a drink of water or whatever.

So cut her a break, & offer to go halves on the dishes.

Are you the same person who is bored by a coworker? Maybe we should warn your girlfriend about your high ideals of a co-worker.

Get your own apartment. Then, you can do whatever you want, whenever your want and you don't have to harm your mom's glassware or eating utensils with your fancy ways.

Geesh. You must be a real winner.

Are you for real? I can't imagine the arrogance of anyone NOT apologizing immediately for doing ANYthing that damaged or broke someone else's property! Not only should you apologize, but you should replace the broken China and tell you poor mom that you are forever in her debt for being so foolish as a GUEST in her home.

You should absolutely apologize. You're saying it was your mother's fault because she walked into her own kitchen? Nice try buddy, but no cigar. You need to apologize AND replace the broken dishes. I don't know if you realize it or not, but you don't have the right to bring strangers to your mother's home without your mother's permission.

Well I think that each of you should apologize to each other, first you should not have been showing off with your moms good china so I think you should aplogize for doing that , second your mother startled you by walking in the kitchen and she should apologize for startling you.
