I wouldn't count on it mate.
People have been predicting the "end of days" for CENTURIES now. Every predicted doomsday has come to pass. Remember June 6th? (06/06/06) That day had alot of religious nuts on their toes. There were 41 different days in 1999 alone that were predicted to be judgement day / apocolypse / the end, etc.
As far as Ayatollah Khomeini goes, don't worry about that guy. He was an insane extremist who made alot of bad press for Islam, and died June 3rd 1989 from prostate cancer.
Side note: August 22nd is my ex-step son's 12th birthday. I hope the world doesn't end on that day. It would really ruin it for him.
Peace!

You know, it seems there are so many signs of the end all coming together these days, from many different religions. It sure seems like it's just a matter of time before something terrible happens to trigger an all out world war 3. Other than stocking food, water, and other survival needs, I think the best any of us can do, is to prepare psychologically for the tragic events which are almost certain to occur in the near future. Above, and beyond this, what can we do, but pray for the best?

Look love there is no reason to believe the world will end just because a few humans say so, the world was here billions of years before we arrived, and will still be here when we have died out, christians have been fighting muslims for hundreds of years, muslims have been fighting jews, same deal, nothing much has changed since the crusades, dont fret, the world is the same as it ever was except we hear of every little thing that happens now, years ago we didnt, thats the only difference..

I think the end is nigh. It's pretty obvious the end of the world will soon be brought about by all life being smothered to death under a huge pile of paperwork.
Seriously, the Scriptures state very clearly that no one will know the time and hints very strongly that it will come at a time when no one is expecting it.

Dear Nick L: In non-denominational thought (non-traditional thinking) it is said:
The physical world came into being at the Great Separation. This did not take place in the Garden of Eden. It took place in the spirit-minds of the Children of God - Who are Created in His Image or Likeness. It took place in our Eternal Home. God is spirit-mind - therefore, so are we. With this said, I would now like to add that God sanctioned the physical world to be a school - a place of learning for us. The Return was appointed by Him. We are safe and eternal as He is - created to be Eternal. No appearances of death are meaningful. When we "die" we are "just out of sight."
Since all is Mind - rather than physical-ness - I would like to quote to you something that may be Mind-opening to you:
"The world will end when its thought system has been completely reversed. Until then, bits and pieces of its thinking will still seem sensible. The final lesson, which brings the ending of the world, cannot be grasped by those not yet prepared to leave the world - and go beyond its tiny reach."
"The world will end in an illusion - as it began. . .It willl not be destroyed nor attacked nor even touched. It will merely cease to seem to be." "The world will end with the benediction of holiness upon it."
Why is this last quoted sentence spoken? Because it is the task of Jesus and the Holy Spirit to teach until all have reached a level of functioning that is high enough that they may be Returned to their Creator and are able to feel equal in their Minds to Him - for that was how we were Created: Equal in our Minds to Him. Sharing His Knowledge. We are not God, but we are OF Him. A part of Him. Only on a higher level, once again, in our thinking, can we withstand His light, love, peace and devotion. Here's more:
"Certainly, this seems to be a long, long while away. When not one thought of guilt or "sin" remains appears to be a long-range goal indeed. But time stands still, and waits on the goal of God's teachers." (Then unity is restored.)
Start your Journey - ask Jesus to teach you one-on-one. After He Ascended He continued to teach. He is so alive - and well!
At your invitation, He will speak through your mind and interpret, answer your questions as you read, and Guide you in daily life. Trust this. And finally, this:
The world will end in joy because it is a place of sorrow. When joy has come, the purpose of this world has gone. The world will end in peace, because it is a place of war. When peace has come - what is the purpose of this world? The world will end in laughter, because it is a place of tears. Where there is laughter, who can longer weep? In blessing this world departs, for it will not end as it began." (The trauma of the Separation.)

No. Humanity as a whole might be set for a crash, if we are not careful, but we are not heading for extinction.
It's quite frightening to me to know that George Bush is one of a group of people (fundamentalist Christians), who largely believe that the apocalypse is just around the corner.
I don't believe in prophecies of doom, but fear for the long term well-being of mankind, based on current trends.

The end of the world? I think the sun will burn itself out in something like 5 billion years time. Until then, (assuming we don't blow ourselves up or poison the planet to the point where it is uninhabitable) I don't think there's anything to worry about.

the christian belief of the apocolypse doesn't have anything to do with islamic beliefs. besides, it's not like God will make such a big decision on account of a human calender.

Oh please. Do you know how many different ways the end of the world has been predicted over the centuries? Find yourself something worthwhile to think about. If it ends, it ends, and we'll none of us know anything thereafter.
