I suppose this question better belongs in Mental Health or Psychology, but how one deals with moments of melancholy can be a reflection of one's spirituality too.

i play my happy music lol
i have a separate music list that i keep for when i need uplifted
to get out of that depressed mode it takes a conscious decision to .. so doing things that keep your thoughts on the positive is important
music .. a happy film ... a goods uplifting book .. playing with kids .. walking in the fields ..etc
make a list of what makes you happy and uplifted .. and make a conscious decision to do them when you are a little down
love to you xx

Dear Paladin: The Medical establishment speaks of depression or melancholy as sometimes being a chemical inbalance. If you are not being "run" by rampant chemicals in the brain, I want you to know:

There is a point in spiritual development where whatever has been - is erased - washed clean - and replaced with some thing that is much more happy.

This point of development doesn't come over night. But, when you extend an invitation to Jesus to have a relationship with you, he will teach, interpret, speak of truths and what is not, and go over the episodes of your life with you. When he speaks, you will hear his voice inside your head and sometimes have a "sense" of his presence. After the Ascension, Jesus kept right on teaching one-on-one through our invitation - only. He is so alive and very well!

The energy that accompanies him, his words, his making things clear to you (he no longer teaches in parables, but is very direct) is so wonderful and so filling that those blue days seem to dwindle and finally disappear. There is a point when we are so cleaned out of our angers - pushed under the carpet - frustrations - relationships that don't give us what they should, etc., and at last understanding the larger scope of things - you can walk through this world and no matter what occurs, you're always O.K. I can witness this to you.

Jesus has no thoughts about our sexual orientation or anything personal to us. He just becomes our Best Friend. Nothing personal is changed - only what we ASK him to look at and discuss with us.

I personaly like to get in my truck roll down the windows and drive around with no purpose and listen to my favorite songs...but now with these gas prices i don't think you want to do that. Sometimes i'll just play a video game or watch something freakin hilarious or hang out with friends. Go watch red vs. blue the Halo web series those are hilarious.

I try to do something for someone else. It gets me out of myself and makes me feel useful. Other times, I write out a gratitude list. Sometimes this is hard and I have to start out small with things like "I have fingers and toes", "I am alive", but the more I think about it, the more I find to be grateful for. I keep a copy of my most recent gratitude list in my wallet.

One day years ago I caught myself trying to find something to be depressed about so I could feed my depression.

That's when I realized it was chemical, not real.

I taught myself to focus on other things. It's real tough because the chemistry is there for depression, but I refused to feed it.

After days weeks and months it became second nature to divert my thoughts to un-depressing things.

I still get depressed, but I don't feed it, and it passes much more quickly.

I listen to music, soothing music. Haven't you heard that music soothes the savage beast and many times music can bring you out of your feelings of melancholy.
