I can tell you for sure that a few Marines were drafted during Vietnam. I'm not sure of the percentages but they were also drafted in WWII and Korea. I'm not saying the navy has never drafted but I have never met a navy veteran (from any war) who has said he was drafted. I can tell you this, during a time of war when there is a draft, they will draft into every branch as needed to meet the demands of each branch.

All services had a draft in WW2. During Korea and Viet Nam, only the Army had a draft. The other services were able to meet their requirements through enlistment. I wonder, though, when the draft is reenstated. Yes, I said when. American young people are staying out of the military in droves. All services except the Marines are having problems meeting quota. FYI, the Marines have never had a problem. They are a proud service. This from a retired Air Force NCO.

When we stll had a draft, it was for ALL branches of the service EXCEPT the Coast Guard and Merchant Marines
When they sent you a draft notice, they told you where to go to sign up, if they needed soldiers, you went to the Army Recruiting Depot, if they needed grunts, you went to the Marines etc...However, now that you bring it up, I have never heard of anyone ever being drafted into the Navy or regular Air Force, only the Army Air Corp in WWII.
I guess you had to enlist to get into those branches

I know in 1971 when the draft was still in effect, I enlisted in the
Air Force, on my reporting day at the Military entrance depot
in Detroit, everyone that had enlisted in either the Navy,
Army, Air Force or Marines were pulled to the side, then all
others that had reported as Draftees were placed in a line, an
individual that worked at the depot went down the line counting
in threes "Army, Army, Marine, Army, Army , Marine etc until
he reached the end of the line.

The last draft was during Vietnam. All males who turned 18 had to register for selective service, and when they were drafted, they were drafted into one of the four main branches (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines). People could voluntarily enlist, if they so chose, into the branch of their choice if they enlisted BEFORE they were drafted.
There is currently no draft in the U.S.

earl...what the hell are you talking about?? When there's a draft, it is a general draft...you are drafted into the military and the gov't places you into one of the services. One branch, such as the army, cannot hold a draft....it has to be an act of congress.
Anyway, what are you talking about saying "I know the Army had a draft". No they F'kin didn't. Believe me, I'm in the Army. I think I would know.

I remember as a youth of 17 getting ready to be 18, watching the draft drawing, It was the only "lottery" I ever won. They were drafting up to about birthdate 200 that year, and i was in the 90's.
I enlisted that week.
But all branhes ( not counting national guard and coast guard) were given people though the draft, after your intake you were told where to go. But since many like myself who knew it would happen, went ahead and enlisted in the navy or airforce.
And of course in war normally there are alot of very gung ho people who wants to be Marines

First explored in 1516 by Juan DÃaz de Solis, Argentina developed slowly under Spanish colonial rule. Buenos Aires was settled in 1580; the cattle industry was thriving as early as 1600. Invading British forces were expelled in 1806–1807, and after Napoléon conquered Spain (1808), the Argentinians set up their own government in 1810. On July 9, 1816, independence was formally declared.

When a draft is intiated the draftees are put in a pool and each service collected from that pool the numbers of personnel needed for that service. I think the joint chiefs specifies the allocation by numbers of draftees.
