well the people posting most know some wealthy police officers,

In GA for example there are many small departments that pay as little as 8 dollars per hour with no insurance benifits, and the average GA departmetn most likely around 28 to 30 thousand would be about it. Some of the larger departments, the state college police may start at about 35 K but there is not alot of raises either.

In TN it is not much better, our county police only make about 9 dollar a hour and have never had health insurnace till this year, and it is only on them not family. Most can collect public assistance and food stanps.

So yes there are some making in the 40 and 50 thousand but it is not the average by any means

The size of the city and the population are factors, and I worked in rural Georgia and its about 26,000. You see the writing to the car the po lice, or the po po, or just poor. Its a great job tho gives you personal satifaction and you have to just love the job. If you are looking for money as in being rich its not going to put you at Bill Gates or Donald Trump. Money doesn't really make us rich it whats inside and what makes you happy. A police officer makes other things, earns emotional points, enjoys serving the public, smiles, respect.

The officers that make a lot of money generally have to live in an extremely high cost area. So proportionally whatever they make is spent on living expenses, they are far from rich.
