The most important thing is communication. It is not love as many would believe. Imagine if you loved somebody who refused to talk to you ever again due to some fight you had. Could you continue to love that person in spite of their insolence?

So yes, a good friendly banter goes a long ways towards keeping a relationship fresh. =) Talk about what goes on at work, whatever you want. Just talk.

As far as a first connection goes, what you look for is that amazing spark. That first glance where you notice the person and you can't turn away even though you know you should. Sure you may have noticed prettier girls before or whatever, but something is different about this one.

That is the type of girl you have a serious relationship with.

As for what a guy sees in you personally, it could be anything. The contour of your face, the shape of your body, the quirky way you dress =) Even the way you sit in a seat. All of the unconscious little things that you never think about because you're too busy noticing them in the guys that you are looking at ;)

Depending on the guy, the thing that could strike down all feelings after all of this could be something as annoying as a smoking habit, or a bad drinking habit, or having kids from a previous relationship. You would not think that last one would matter, but to a guy it denotes promiscuity or at least the chance that the next kid could be his growing up without a father.

If I am in a serious relationship I look for the same as I give, respect and honesty. Respect who they are and when you are honest, you don't need to remember what lie you told and to whom it was told to. The most important thing in a relationship is communication with each other. If you have that, most problems can be solved before the relationship goes bad.
