Hi, my little girl, who is 3, will be the flower girl in my nieces wedding in september. She has long hair, almost to her behind. She has to wear a tiara type oval on her head. It also has ribbons that hang down the back of it. Any suggestions on how to fix her hair. I have been playing with her hair for the past month with rollers and such trying to figure something out.

IF you can get her to sit still, try banana curls with the front pulled back with some cute clips. Also, here are some links with some hairstyles suitable for kids:

Get the hot rollers called Hot Stix (and I believe it's spelled that way too), most larger beauty supply stores carry them, but call around to be sure. They're these sticks (duh....) that are round and have a hole in one end. You wind the hair up on the stick (again...duh.....) and then push one end of the stick into the hole making a circle. This will make GORGEOUS curls that will last and last!! My daughter uses these for dance competitions and for plays/musicals that she performs in, and her hair has always held up under those brutal conditions. You can leave them in until right before the pictures or ceremony, it's best to let the hair cool down anyway before taking them out. If you want to pull half her hair back (which I'd probably do), pull it back, and then put the rollers in, because the curls will not allow you to pull it back if you do that after wards. It will look very appropriate for a 3 year old, and won't require an inordinate amount of fussing (which 3 year olds hate anyway) Good luck!

p.s. you might need 2 sets, my daughter has alot of hair, and uses 2 sets when she really needs curls.

My daughter has long hair also and this is a technique that I use and is very simple and quick which is a big plus. You can do this with curled hair or strait but curling it in rollers first is more elegant. Pull her hair in a lose simple ponytail at the lower base of her head. Make a split just above the ponytail holder and run the end of hter hair through that and pull it straight down. It may take several attempts to make it look right if you have never done this before. Very beautiful and simple with long hair.

I am a professional hairstylist and I try to avoid using hot appliances in childrens hair. For flower girls I either style the hair with half up and half down with the bottom portion roller set until event time. The part that is up, I usually will curl with my fingers and then pin it down and put little flower bobby pins around them.

Or I will just twist different sections of the hair with my fingers and pin it all up, until it looks like neat twists curling up into a bun and then put little flower clips all around.

I put 2 sample photos below of what I am describing...

Hope this helps :)

I would just roll the ends under with a curling iron and hair spray and let the ribbons hang over her hair. Simple and not too time-consuming for a 3 year old. That's what we're doing for my 3 yr old's hair that is shoulder length.

My daughter was the flower girl at my wedding, and she was three at the time. I took her to the salon with us, and the stylist there took the front half of her hair and rolled it over and pinned it. The rest of her hair just hung down her back with little ringlets in it. She had a crown and it stayed through all the important parts. Plus, she got a huge kick out of going to the salon with all the grown-ups the day of the wedding. (She still talks about it a year later!!)

A French braid, a low ponytail, a low side ponytail- either with tendrils, her hair hanging natural-maybe with a slight curl.
Trying to get that much hair up on top of her head might just be too much for her & the weight of the hair.

take it and put it in an upside down bun (small) and let the rest of the hair flow over it. the hair that hangs over make it really curly and let the ribbons fall over it.
