I recently noticed my cat drinking more water than before, so I had my vet do a blood draw and everything was pretty good there. She decided to prescribe anti-biotics in case there was a UTI, but my cat is still drinking about the same amount. I recently decided to measure it, and it appears to be about 6-8 ounces per day. She is 7 lbs or so. She eats about an equal amount of dry and canned food plus I give her a fiber supplement. I am suspecting that she may have been previously sneaking water out of the swimming pool, but the water has been so warm lately that maybe she stopped that and is only drinking indoors. I've tried searching around and can't seem to find any guidelines for what might be a normal amount for a cat to drink. Thanks for your help. Terry

Since she has had a recent blood panel you know things are in pretty good shape and she is not suffering from diabetes or hyperthyroidism -- common symptoms are drinking a lot of water.

Since she eats some canned food she is getting hydration there.

I have five cats here and I couldn't measure how much water they drank if I had to so I don't know what would be "normal".

Recently, I had a totally kibble eating cat being diagnosed with bladder cancer. I was observing him very closely at this time and became aware that he NEVER drank from any of the numerous water bowls I had around. That was a shock! His diet has been changed to raw and canned meat for sure

I have never seen an "amount" in any of the books I have read. I really think you have nothing to worry about.

Vets say that cats usually drink about 3-4 OZ of water, but I think there are no rules. Every cat drinks differently. I have 4 cats in the household - and all 4 drink a different amount of water. It is very important to change their water every day. I bought Drinkwell cat fountain - my cats just love it. Good luck!

Try to reduce the pool temperature and observe whether the cat drinks from the pool.
A cat usually does not drink water as it can meet its hydration needs from its intakes-milk, fish etc.
Usually if a cat drinks water frequently it can be diabetes
In such case since you have tested the blood sample i don't think that is the case.
You can also observe the cat's urination timing.

If the vet says she's okay, I would assume that your cat knows how much water she needs and is doing okay. Probably you're noticing her drink more now because it's been so hot. She may drink less in the winter.

The total water intake seems to be near normal. But still you should ask your vet to rule out Diabetes.
