There are some 40 countries in Europe, between Armenia and Spain!

I guess you mean "Western Europe" or the EU.

- An Israeli does no need any special permit to enter the EU countries as a tourist and can travel in these countries for three months (afterwards they have to leave or if they plan a trip of moer than 3 month - to apply for a special visa).

- But an Israeli definitely needs a work-permit (special kind of "visa") to work in the EU and elsewhere outside Israel (unless working for Israeli authorities, because then they arrange that for you).

To visit countries that are members of the EU, an Israeli does not need a passport. Some other countries in Europe also don't require a visa, but there may be some that do. See sources section below for a couple of examples. Look in the text under "Visas".

In fact, an Israeli friend of mine just visited Germany, right on the Swiss border. Not only did she not need a visa for either country, she crossed the border several times with *no* identity check whatsoever (and Switzerland isn't an EU member).

Presumably to work in most European countries, you would need a work visa.
