They are the same. Ghost has gotten a bad rap by Hollywood, and somehow is thought of as scary.
There are good and evil spirits/ghosts.
Different words for the same thing.
The Holy Ghost/Spirit is a personage of spirit with no flesh and bones. Either word is fine.
The Holy Ghost is a personage of Spirit with a special mission, The Holy Ghost testifies of Truth, and guides us, the Holy Ghost knows all things and can dwell within us if our temples are clean.
Other spirits or ghosts also if allowed in can take possession of our being/tabernacle/temple.

The two terms are interchangeable. Some Christians dislike the term ghost because of its connection to horror stories. Other Christians feel that the term Holy Ghost gives it more of a personification, thus treating it as a third person in the triune Godhead. The terms, however, are mostly interchangeable.

angel hit it just right, it goes back to the 16th century when the King James Version was translated, and the best translation for spirit was ghost. not a scary thing but a being without substance.

That's just two different ways to translate the word that means "breath" or "spirit." "Ghost" is meant to communicate that the "spirit" is not in a physical body.
