I wish! I'd have to go for the German/Irish-American 'minority' thing though. I'm tired of getting the shaft for being hardworking...I want free money too! ;-)

Making a left turn on that subject....Can't we all just be Americans not Hyphenated-Americans. We should be able to recognize and be proud of where we came from but have a commonality and strength in knowing that we are now all equal and Americans.

To that guy with the answer above me (nefariousx) read your American history book. The Irish had it quite badly many came over as indentured servants and were treat like sh*t. They were a slave class just not classified as "slaves."

All races at one point or another in history have had their times of persecution. If you weren't personally there and suffered then get over it. Life is going to suck if you can't have a sense of humor about things.

Sure, you should write Tony Blair. The Irish were abused by the British for a long, long, time. I read recently that the British at one time planned on enslaving the Irish and even set up plantations in Ireland.

You are debasing a legitimate argument for reparations for African Americans who's forefather's were slaves.

Until you can prove that your relatives were brought to America involuntarily and in chains on a slave ship then there's really no comparison.

Wouldn't you like something to show for a lifetime's worth of work? That's what the slaves wanted, and they never got it. Do you think that helped their kids? And their kids..etc.

I'm of Irish descent also and my ancestors were booted out of N. Ireland by the slimey Brit government of the time.
Maybe I can collect from both GB & USA? At least enough for a few rounds of Guinness.

He's right in that the Irish were treated horribly. I'm a History major and my professors say they were treated as bad as the black people were. Also, haven't you people seen Gangs of New York?

Nope, sorry, out of luck. A large portion of the American population has Irish heritage somewhere, so it isn't much of a minority or disenfranchised group.

No you can't. . .but interestingly enough the many there are so many illegal Irish here. Just like all of the other immigrant groups--they are helping to keep America strong in more ways than one.

We should have just as much of a right to reparation money as the blacks. Who do you think built this nation for next to nothing? (the Irish)

No but if you are truly half Irish, you might be about to obtain Irish citizenship; thus, be a citizen of Europe....
