No to Sexual Apartheid in Iran!

Shari’a law has ruined the lives of women in Iran. You might ask how?

• Do you know in Iran women are stoned to death for having sexual relations outside marriage?
• Do you know women do not have the right to choose their clothes? It is common knowledge that in Iran, the veil is compulsory and women who defy it are severely punished, arrested or flogged in public?
• Do you know that women and men are forced to be segregated in public?
• Do you know that many jobs are closed to women because of their gender?
• Do you know that women have to get written permission from their husbands or male guardians in order to get a job, study or travel?
• Do you know that women do not have the right to divorce and in the event of divorce they do not have the right of custody of their children?

The list is endless. In one word, sexual apartheid rules in Iran under Islamic Shari’a law.
You might find these facts hard to believe. It is unfortunately the bitter truth for millions of women in Iran. Parallel to this devastating situation, there is a strong movement for a better humane life in Iran. Women in Iran have managed to force their way into all aspects of the society including education. There is a strong movement against the veil and all anti women laws. The struggle against sexual apartheid is visible as a strong and radical movement in Iran.

Because the people who are in charge of Islamic policy there are primitive and chauvinistic. They are trying to preserve the idea that this is a man's world. They believe God created women exclusively for men's sexual gratification, and to have their babies. They don't believe women are intelligent enough, or capable of participating in political or business decisions. Gender bias and discrimination are still the norm in their society.

A 17 year old girl was HUNG this year in Iran for stabbing a man who was trying to RAPE her and her niece. Another 16 year old girl was sentenced to DEATH for fornication. There is one set of rules for males, and another set of rules for females. It is a double standard that illustrates the incompatibility of Islamic law with human rights and justice.

God help us all!

I will answer each and every of ur question 1 by 1

1) Have u ever asked an Iranian woman if their life is ruined b/c of Islam? if Not, u cant assume, and if u did, u wouldnt have gotten the response u want.

2) Yes, women and men alike are to be stoned to death in Sharia'h 'coz illegitimate adultery is a serious crime towards society .......... as it spreads fornication, 'coz if one will do, then gradually everyone will start doing it ............... and there wil be more bastard kids having some screwed-up family system and low moral/ethical values and even lower self/esteem, rather than a normal legitimate child with a normal family system.

3) Women have the right to choose their clothes, it is just a compulsion that they draw on a veil or wear a cloak over their clothes When they go outside, but if they are in their home, they can remain without a cloak or a veil ............ try this thing for a single day that u cover all ur body with a cloak (except for ur face and hands) and do ur routine day work ............ i'll tell u what u will find .............. u will be well respected by others, no one will give u dirty looks, and Never will u get molested.

3) Women and Men are suppose to be segregated 'coz A man and A woman arent suppose to intermingle, 'coz thats the root to all the adultery ............. infact if a gaze of a man or a woman fall on the other gender person, they should lower their gazes before bad thoughts enter their mind and guard their modesty.

4) Yeah, women are not suppose to be on job that are not modest for them, or where there is intermingling with men .......... do u know abt those women in army in war of usa? almost all of them have either been molested by their seniors and forced to do sexual favours to them, and they have sex with many a men in their unit. Same is the case in companies, where women get sexually harrased everyday in usa, u may win the case, but can u ever feel the same as u did before being sexually harrased by the superior, and being taken advantage of.

5) As u can see, there is even a provision for women to do all the stuff that they have been warned against ........... so if they HAVE to do for personal reasons, then they should ask their husbands, or their father or any other male guardian (depending on the situation to choose any of these) because the males are given the responsibility of being a protector for the women (though men and women have equal status, but have not identical status) and men are the guardians of women against the evilry that exist in the society, so men should know abt the whereabouts of Their women, so they can protect them effectively.

6) You have been totally misinformed ............. infact Islam was the 1st (either by religion or by law of any other society) to have given the right to women for divorce, and in the event of divorce they get the custody of an adolescent child, (coz mothers are responsible for the proper upbringing of a child), and later men get the custody (as fathers are responsible for providing for the child, and to teach them the traits to live in the society effectively) .......... and so women are free to marry again and move on with their lives, than to sacrifice her life entirely for the responsibility of her child (a child can live with either parent, when child is legally old enough to make a choice)

And i can reply to ur endless list .................. all these questions were answered under Islamic Sharia'ah Law NOT the iran law, and i can answer more of ur questions and clear ur misconceptions if u can contact me, or drop me a line at askabtIslam@yahoo.com.

Don't just assume that women are oppressed, 'coz THEY dont think so, so why do U? dont make assumptions ........... ask them for urself !!! In the end i would like to say, we dont have a right to make comments on a foreign law, as we havent lived in their law.

You question obviously comes from a lack of understanding and shows how little you know about Islam. Not all muslim countries follow shari'a law but even if they all did they are not as bad as you might think.
In answer to each of your points...

• Do you know in Iran women are stoned to death for having sexual relations outside marriage?
While this is true did you know that there have to be several witnesses to this. Off the top of my head I believe you have to have 4 witnesses. How many people do you think witness you having sex on a regular basis? Cerainly if you have spectator they are probably even less if you are having an affair since you would hide yourself.

• Do you know women do not have the right to choose their clothes? It is common knowledge that in Iran, the veil is compulsory and women who defy it are severely punished, arrested or flogged in public?
This is true in Iran but it's not true in all muslim countries. In islam it is supposed to be the womans choice. Most muslim women choos to wear hijab (the veil) but there are others who do not. The only time it is required in islam is durring prayer and in the mosque. This practice was also common with jews and christians until the later part of last century. It's still common among many religions including certain pagan religions. The punishment in Iran is severe but again that part is not mandadted but Islamic law that is iran's extreme interpretation.

• Do you know that women and men are forced to be segregated in public?
This may be require in Iran(I don't know) but it's not true of all muslim countries. The segregation is meant to protect women from men. Most muslims view this as a problem that is easily solved by wearing the hijab. The veil is a mediating force between a man and woman. However the segregation is also a cultural practice. Even here we do this to some degree. When I think about my family (scandinavian) at thanksgiving all of the women and children are upstairs laughing, talking, playing, and making food while all the men are downstairs watching football and playing cards. It's not something were forced to do it's something we choose to do. If it is mandated in Iran that in public women and men be segregated then that would be another extreme interpretaion of islamic law that has been imposed bu iran not Islam.

• Do you know that many jobs are closed to women because of their gender?
Yeah that never happened in the west never happens now... Oh wait it did and does. Besides that some jobs are closed to women because there are certain requirements that place too much burden on the women. For exampl a common job closed to women is that of being a judge this is not because a woman is not smart enough or capable of doing the job but because islamic laws are based on the quran and to talk about and use the quranic laws one must be clean. A woman who is mensturating is considered unclean because she cannot stop the flow of menstrual blood. Women are also prone to mood swings durring mensturation and pregnancy which may effect the way the judge a person. Also, durring pregnancy it may be difficult for a woman who is likely uncomfortable and tired, to perform her duties as a judge. Although I feel it's unfair and they could find ways to work around such things it doesn't seem so bad to me.

• Do you know that women have to get written permission from their husbands or male guardians in order to get a job, study or travel?
This may not be fair but it's not like we didn't have stupid rules like that either. Did you know that at one time women had to have their husbands permission to buy a car? That's pretty stupid too. But again this is not an Islam issue this is a rule imposed by the Iranian government.

• Do you know that women do not have the right to divorce and in the event of divorce they do not have the right of custody of their children?
Well, I don't know if that's tru in Iran but that would actually be unislamic because Islam gives the right to both men and women so if it's bieng done differently in Iran that's not because of Islam that's because of the Iranian government's interpretation of extreme views.
I would agree that iran does not treat women fairly but I think it's unfair to put the blame on Islam since Islam grants women many freedoms most of which were not available to women in other parts of the world untill the last half of the last century. Women in Islam had the right to divorce, own land, and even vote over 1400 years before the west.
The list is endless. In one word, sexual apartheid rules in Iran under Islamic Shari’a law.

They practice an old law that Jesus fulfilled long ago. This is saying that somehow God made a mistake in sending His Word down to be born of a woman, and live among His people, and die on the cross for our sins. God does not make mistakes, and their close mindedness, and judgementalism, means that they are trying to play God.
The men are probably jealous that God chose a virgin woman as the vessel for His Word to be born into the world. This gives women a position of honor, and no man had anything to do with it.

If there is a theocracy in a religious state then generally there will be laws which do not suit non-believers. If a woman is against these aspects of her nation's laws she should have the legal right to move to a different political climate (with the travel costs subsidised by the state).

I think you're right; although the woman may have some power in the home, she doesn't really have rights. In some places, such as Pakistan and Afghanistan, girls are sometimes married to rich old men as soon as they reach puberty. The age of consent in Iran is NINE. You can see it, can't you? 'Oh, she agreed to it, m'lud'. Yeah, convenient. The BBC website has plenty of horrific stories, such as an Iranian girl who was swimming in her wealthy parents' pool, reported by a neighbour for 'inciting immoral behaviour' or some such by being uncovered in public, and was stoned to death. (Not noted what the neighbour's punishment was for getting excited while spying on a girl in her garden.) Sharia law even dictates what size stones should be used - too small, not effective; too big, dies too quickly & doesn't suffer enough. In 2002 a young woman was sentenced to death under sharia law in Nigeria for having a child out of wedlock. She was divorced during her pregnancy. The Nigerian government appealed against the ruling. (Not sure what happened). The BBC programme 'Death of a Princess' was about a princess in, I think, Saudi Arabia who was stoned to death in public, for being 'too Western', wearing Western clothes and having a boyfriend. The stonings may not happen daily, but they still happen, along with many other abuses. People who deny that these things still exist are misinformed. I wrote to MP Theresa May a few months ago, after a newspaper article about her visit to the Middle East and concern about the number of children and young girls stoned to death in places like Iran. She replied that instances are decreasing, and that the Government is trying to put pressure on the countries involved to stop it. I have met many decent, honourable Moslems in the UK who try to live decent, moral lives; but I have no time for the terrible injustices meted out by old men on defenceless people in the name of Islam.

NOT REALLY! Islamic law not only abuses women but it is hard on men also. It also is hard on non believers of their faith: an example is Hizbollah setting up rocket launchers and anti aircraft gun in Christian neighborhoods in Bruit to use them as human shields. Muslims traditionally commit genocide against their neighbors when they become the majority and their presence in North America has introduced terrorism to America.

Proper Shariah Law is not implemented in these countries, the law is corrupted and biased by humans which is why all these injustices take place. Just because a country "SAYS" they practice that law does not mean they do it properly.

Let me ask you why would so many women convert to Islam if they were treated so inferior or like 'property'. If you look at the stats there are more women converts than men. The ratio is 4 women convert out of every man. 4:1.

If you want to know what the religion teaches just read this verse:

"Mankind! We have created you from a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that you may know one another. Verily, the most honorable of you in the Sight of Allah is the believer who has Taqwa (i.e. piety and righteousness)and loves Allah most. Verily, Allah is All-Knowing, All-Aware."

"As a modern westerner with a career, of course I had to look into Islam's attitude to women - I couldn't be oppressed all of a sudden. But I discovered that it is pro-women and pro-men; in Islam, women had the right to vote in the year 600. Men dress modestly, women dress modestly; neither should flirt with the eyes, but rather they should lower their gaze. I think it's unhealthy to flaunt your sexuality - it attracts the wrong energy back." (MTV Presenter Kristiane Backer after being a Muslim) "Since I called myself a feminist, my early reading centered around women in Islam. I thought Islam oppressed women. In my Women's Studies courses I had read about Muslim women who were not allowed to leave their homes and were forced to cover their heads. Of course I saw hijab as an oppressive tool imposed by men rather than as an expression of self-respect and dignity. What I discovered in my readings surprised me. Islam not only does not oppress women, but actually liberates them, having given them rights in the 6th century that we have only gained in this century in this country: the right to own property and wealth and to maintain that in her name after marriage; the right to vote; and the right to divorce." (Karima Slack, an American feminist from secular humanism to Islam)

Before any other religion or system in the world Islam gave a woman the right to inherit, the right to vote and voice her opinion, the right to trade invest and improve herself financially, the right to own – buy and sell, the right to seek knowledge and have a good education, the right to work and has even gone further to oblige the males in every stage of her life, whether it was a father, brother or husband ... It's their duty before God to take care of her, to spend on her, to provide her with the food , clothing and shelter that she needs, to provide her with a good education, to protect her from anything that can harm her and to never hesitate to put their lives in stake for her if the need calls them to do so.

According to Islam humans are slaves of Allah.
Here men get a chance to treat women as men's slaves and they do it.
That's is Islam.
