well all I am going to disagree with most of you...$25 for 9 hrs is garbage pay...I am 37yr old and I got payed that much back when I was 13 and babysat...now days the going rate is about $25 for 5hrs and no less than $40 for 6-8hrs and any thing over that is up for discusion most will charge at least $5 for every hr after 8hrs so with you babysitting 9hrs a day you should be getting at least $45

We pay our sitters $5.00/hr. for two kids. But rarely do they stay longer than four hours at a time (usually only for an evening). Any time I needed a sitter during the day (for 6 or more hours) I paid minimum $40 and made sure lunch was already prepared. You need to be making at least $40/day. Especially if you are responsible for making lunch. It's great that you love what you are doing, but remember, you are providing this family with a valuable service, not slave labor.

You need to change your rate. $25 is what I get for two hours sometimes! You should probably ask $54, that may seem like a lot but it's only $6/hr which is what I charge. If the kid enjoys spending time with you, the mother should be willing to pay that amount. Besides, even $54/day is much less than she would pay for summer camp or daycare!

i would suggest if your getting payed 4to 5 dollars an hour figure out a way to talk about getting a raise. I was stuck with that amount of money when i babysat and practically raised a newborn for a year and a half. If i had a babysitter for my son i would pay 8-10 dollars an hour depending on there experience. But you are young. Pay will suck for some time. Keep your head up and save those dollars. Your gonna need them

Sorry, but I have to ask, what is wrong with the 13 year-old that he/she cannot babysit their younger brother or sister? In most states 12 years of age is when kids can babysit.

tell the parents it's 5/hr. they're taking advantage of you for only $25. Do you get her lunch/ get her dressed/ take her outside... there is alot to do for a six year old in eight hours time. Get your moneys worth. It's still alot cheaper than them putting her into daycare. Get $40

I think it depends on how many days you work... when I was 13, I worked 5 days a week (monday - friday... 8-5), I was paid $75 a week.

Um... well at 6, the person can probably get her child into a daycare facility for the same amount (125.00 per week) maybe even less... if you're 13 making 125.00 per week, that's not that bad at all ... and I'm sure you have perks right??
