I was curious. Of course they are welcome. But Buddhist, Muslim, Christian etc are spiritual. Some athiest just come on to change ones spirituality. My best friend doesn't believe in Christ but I've never once forced my beliefs on him. If you really think our religions are myths why not post in myths forums? As I said before all are welcome to their own opionions. :) I know I'm adding fuel to the fire. But I had to ask tehehe

An an atheist, I suppose I should explain the reasons why I answer in "Religion And Spirituality" alhough I cant answer for us all.

- I'm curious about faith. Having belief in something that you cant see is a mystery to me. I sometimes wonder if theres anything I can learn.
- Arent I entitled to give a viewpoint on faith too? So I may not have one, cant I explain why I dont?
- We're sometimes interested in how religion can seemingly make people blind to scientific fact. We're curious about how factual evidence can be dismissed in favour of belief.
- We dont want to force our theories and ideas on you, we just want to debate them as well, just as we know the vast majority of people with faith dont want to force it down our throats either. You just get the odd random nut who is so intent on making you believe or disbelieve they seem to account for the majority. Which is wrong.
- Sometimes you can find people that are very interesting and are moved by their religion, which I find interesting because I think religion and faith is just something invented by the mind to bring comfort but then some people are so sure that they exist. Its quite powerful.

And in regards to the "myths" aspect, religion and myths are very different, so we post here! in summary, we're here mainly just to enquire about our own questions or to hopefully spark a little interest in another angle on religion.

In response to this comment: "Everyone has something in them that wants to seek & find God. Athiest just wont admit it."
I find that just attempting to force religion on us, and provide an explanation for our atheist viewpoints and we dont appreciate comments like that. Telling us to find God or to see the truth in the Bible/Koran etc wont work because we simply dont believe.

i'm an Atheist, and that i'm no longer empty interior. If I even have an opinion, then I provide it, and if i'm curious, then I ask questions. i do no longer start up situation, and that i do no longer attempt to offend everyone. I even have defended faith in some solutions, and that i've got reported that i've got faith that faith would be a solid ingredient at times. i'd be a non secular individual without believing in god. i'm, and consistently would be a curious individual, and could follow my strategies everywhere it leads. If it happens to steer me to an information, whether the guy answering or asking feels or believes in yet differently than I, then I even have not wasted my time. If somebody assaults Atheists customarily, then i will take care of my ideals. there is no longer something that i decide on from everyone. i'm very content textile, and that i'm hoping that any one, no count number what their perception gadget or faith, can say a similar.

I am interested in religion on a sociological aspect. Yes I believe it is a myth but when asked that is the honest answer. You'd prefer I answer dishonestly? I'm sorry if some of my answers don't sit well with others but you can look at the questions I have asked and you will see I have never once said anything derogatory to any belief system.

t a m i l that's not true, a lot of people have no idea who God is and have the sense to not care. And I personally come here to provoke thought or to actually learn about another religion, and if to learn about the religion takes a controversial question then I'm sorry but don't get offended if your roots are so firmly set. But if I sound condescending sometimes it is because I heard something that made me mad and I'm sorry for those times. But mostly to learn and to help provoke thought and maybe increase understanding if anyone listens.

I asked this question yesterday (not as nicely as you did) and didn't get many serious answers, but it gave me pause to think about it.

God created man with an awareness of the spiritual dimension.

Atheists have this awareness too, but without the Holy Spirit of God to calibrate this perception, their minds must wander from one concept to another exploring the feasibility of one belief after another.

I've observed a pattern in atheists, and I think it's due to the extensive thought they invest in all these belief systems they scrutinize. They find it a challenge to refute and disprove each belief system based on critereon that on the surface sounds logical.

The numerous spiritual constructs extant in the world come in varying quality. Some are easy to debunk, others more difficult.

Now to my answer. I think atheists like the challenge of hanging around Christians willing to defend their faith, because they derive a sense of pride when they think they can refute, slander or deny the reality of Christianity in their own minds.

So it's an ego thing. They feel superior if they can "trump" Christians who haven't fully prepared themselves to defend the faith.

Because we are trying to protect humanity from the kind of atrocities that religions inspire. Take a look at the Crusades, the Inquisitions, or the current Middle East wars if you want some good examples. Without religion, all these people wouldn't have such a huge motivation to kill each other.

Interesting that they think pursuing religion is a waste of one's life and time, yet they can come here for hours and take cheap potshots at the religious, esp. Christians, and think nothing of it.

Well, I guess hypocrites don't only go to church...

Note to afterbirth07 (yuck? jk) I'm sorry to say your characterization of the atheist haters as the "odd random nut" is the general rule around here. The honest debaters, as you characterize yourself, are, unfortunately, the exception.

That's the same question I've been asking for a log time!....The proof that's shown on this religious/spiritual forum is that atheists log onto this religious/spiritual site to Condemn, Harass, Mock, Disrespect, Make False Accusations, Bully, And Insult Believers!....every one has a right to believe whatever they want to believe so why do atheists log onto a religious/spiritual forum to DEGRADE Believers Who Believe & Serve GOD and Push their non-beliefs on believers!......Not Fair!.....there are other sites that believes the same as they do...why not log onto another site!...why choose believers to pick on!......CRULE!!!......Their Motives Are Wrong!!!...

Just because they're atheists doesn't mean they don't like debating religion and spirituality. I may not be pro-choice, but I still enjoy arguing the topic.
