No, you are all (mostly wrong).
The SAS is the equivelent of Delta (1stSFOD-D) . Delta was organised along the same lines as 22nd SAS Regt.
US Army Rangers (75th Ranger Regiment) is a Special Forces, rapidly deployable light infantry unit that often works closely in support of Delta. There has been no direct British Army equivalent until recently, as a matter of fact, and the UK has actually borrowed the US model. The nearest thing the British Army has to the Rangers, in terms of mission is 1 PARA
The accurate answer is The Special Forces Support Group, of which 1st Battalion, The Parachute Regiment is part of.
The Special Forces Support Group (SFSG) is a special operations unit of the British Armed Forces. It is comprised of units from the British Army's Parachute Regiment, Royal Air Force Regiment, and the Royal Marines. The SFSG was formed officially on April 3, 2006 to augment other United Kingdom Special Forces units on large-scale missions. It is a part of the United Kingdom Special Forces along with the Special Air Service, Special Boat Service and Special Reconnaissance Regiment

The SAS is like our Green Berets the Royal Marine Commandoes would be like our Marine Force Recon... The equivalent to the US Army Rangers is the Royal Irish Rangers. Like Rangers in the US the Royal Irish Rangers have a long history. Hope this helps

you would be pretty much right i suppose the parachute regiment is used as for special operations in direct support of special forces, (i.e Delta use Rangers if they need some heavy firepower, and the SAS use the paras for the same reason) the parachute regiment has not done a combat drop for a very long time, instead they are employed as direct action light infantry it has to be said that the parachute regiment has an international reputation for being the most aggressive and violent unit available to NATO, as is usually employed as the ultimate 'shock' force, Basic training for a US ranger is 8-10 weeks Basic Training to be a para is 29 weeks perhaps the best example of the paras working with british special forces was Operation Barras from sierra leone in west africa 7 british soldiers were being held captive by a rebel group deep in the jungle, about 30 sas/sbs troops supported by 200 members from 1 para, launched a helibourne assault directly into the centre of the rebel village, over the course of 5 hours 300-400 hundred rebels were killed to the cost to the brits of 1 dead and 20-30 wounded. all the hostages were rescued unharmed
