How bad of a thing is it? can it repair itself?

Dog is fine....Just hacking occasionally.
Took into vet, and that was the diagnoses.
So I am trying to find out possibilities, they are sending us to a specialist.

No it probably will not repair itself and if you wait, there maybe too much damage done for the dog to recover. If the dog has a collapsed lung, it needs to see a vet. The vet may need to remove the air that is pushing the lung in.

IF the dog suffered some trauma...put some kind of bulky dressing or a pillow on it and tape it to the dog. This will help him feel better until you can get him to the vet

No My Dog Is Old But Fine. I'm Sorry To Hear Your Dog Is Ill. If Your Dog Is Ill. I'm pretty Sure That A Situation Like That Is Bad. The Only Way It can Be Fixed Is To Take The Dog To The VET.

My sister had a dog with this problem. They suctioned him out (put a needle between the ribs & withdrew the infultrate around the lung) it reinflated but collapsed agian a few days later. He needed throasic surgery. It was a VERY rough ride & a painful recovery but he did recover fully & lived to the age of 14 (fairly old for a German Shepard) Another dog I've heard of didn't survive to make it to the emergency clinic....

You need to take it to the vet. If it collapsed because of infiltration, it may be possible to suction it. If it collapsed because of a hole, that is a serious thing that needs to be patched up.

It can NOT heal itself without a doctor's help--just like a human.
