I'm trying to be as polite as possible, but religion / religious thought can't go on forever - frankly I'm surprised that we seem to actually be going in the OTHER direction!

Eventually believers will dwindle until all modern religions are thought of in the same way we now look at the religions of the ancient Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans--as interesting and amusing myths.

Religion is much easier than science. It’s easier to say, “it’s in God’s plan,” or, “God did it,” than actually doing research to find out why something happens. The hope religion provides is powerful, but then again so is Santa to little kids. There is trillions of dollars in religion, so the people who profit from misinformation want it to continue as well. There are many reasons why religion is still around, which will aid it in staying around for awhile to come.

Religions themselves come and go in their dominance though. I believe that there will always be people who choose to live in a fairy tale, and not acknowledge fact. Eventually though, science will begin to disprove so much of what religious people believe that they will have no choice but to submit. As with all things, society eventually will acknowledge fact, and get rid of the lies. We eventually accepted that the world is round and that we actually revolve around the sun. It just takes time for the powers that be to die, and the youth to take over and make things right.

It still amazes me that with as much as we know now that religious people still exist. With the knowledge we have today we have just about made believing in religion like believing in Santa Clause. I just don’t understand how people can still believe this hog wash.

no because it has lasted for so long and people are always wanting to believe that there is something more than we just live and then die. but i do believe that it gets diluted because people are always wanting to change religion to suit them. for example, some of the clothes we were now would never have been permitted before because they reveal to much. but now it is so common that no one ever thinks about it. i also think as time goes on new religions are made up or " discovered". i am not putting down any one religion but they cant all the the only one can they?

I doubt it. It's an idea that the evolutionsist types like throw around, that things evolve...the only problem is, like an idiot with a bible, they like to apply it to everything in the universe, wether it fits or not.

Religious way of thinking is just another aspect of human psyche, and it really won't "go away" until we are no longer human. The reasons' why folks have religion, or religious attitudes in their lives is as varied as the people out there.

It's like asking, when will we evolve away from loving another person, or siting down and enjoying a hobby. The idea of evolving away from religion says more aboutt you and your mindset, than it does abou religion in general.\

So do I think we'll evolve away from religion? No. I hope we evolve away from mindless fanaticism, but I doubt religion, will ever go away.

No religion is here to stay. God has us wired to seek Him and if we don't fill that void with Him then we find other ways to fill it. But even aside from that, look at some of the most recent scientific findings. The more science discovers the more logical it becomes in believing in a Creator.

If it weren't for God there would be no technology. That said, No the only thing that will happen is that a worldwide religion will be established. Likely worshipping the image of a world leader. It will all fall apart after that.

No, it won´t cease to exist since religion fulfills spiritual needs, not intellectual pursuits. However, religions will continue incorporating contemporary questions, adapting or rejecting them, as they have for for centuries.
Even if you are an educated person, and your education has provided you with perspective, you can´t expect everyone to share that perspective. Some people are quite content with their beliefs, and furthermore, they are entitled to practice and believe whatever they want.

No. The bell curve will always make sure that there are enough, hmmm, non thinking people around. ;-)
Think. The AVERAGE intelligence is 100 IQ
If you ever met someone with a 100 IQ, you'd be shocked at how stupid they are. Now consider, half of all people are lower IQ than that. Should give you pause. ;-)

So people who have religion or follow a spiritual path are unadvanced?

No, it'll never fade away. There will always be a deep-seated need to be spiritually fulfilled in some people. It'll be around, always, in one form or another.

Religion will never "go away" as long as there are believers. And there are plenty! We will be here until the end.
