I guess I was raised a Catholic. Honestly I dont get it. I dont like going to Church, its probably the most boring way to pass a Sunday afternoon. I mean I suppose I believe in God and Jesus. but honestly I would rather believe that he was a real man who did amazing things and deserves to be revered as a mesiah. What I dont understand the most is how man can commit the most horrific things in the name of God. example, well other than wars, religious protesters who claim vile things: GOD hates Fags. No God doesnt HATE.

As an individualist, you'd fit in very well with a congregation of Unitarian Universalists.

As to Jesus being just a man whose way of life is worthy of admiration, that's what Thomas Jefferson believed, so you're in good company. He considered himself a Christian, but he didn't believe all the supernatural mumbo-jumbo either.

I totally agree with you. Religious fanatics like Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson make me so angry. They teach hatred and bigotry against homosexuals and a woman's rights to choice. It doesn't make any common sense to believe that only "saved" Christians can go live with the Lord on the other side. The Lord sent other prophets to spread his word besides just Jesus. I would love to find an organized religion that teaches the truth. I also believe that we have lived past lives and when we go again to live in the love of the Lord on the other-side our past lives will return to our memory. I do not believe that Jesus will ever be coming back, or if he does, it will be as another life just like us. God created all of us. A persons sexuality is the way they were born. God does not make mistakes. What is with these pentecostal 'tongues". I didn't know that da da da and de de de was actually a language! They are the worst at teaching hate.

Everyone believes in their own religion to some extent, and it's not the worst thing in the world to differ from the status quo. In fact, it's rather better to be a moral free-thinker than a prejudiced follower. The Bible states that God has written his law on our hearts, so we should always heed our own conscience in moral matters. And whatever you believe about the specifics, at least you have the most important aspect of the religion down: God doesn't hate, and God never sanctions the violence of others.

Good point, if you keep going you'll just be a good person as an atheist not a bad Catholic for being so full of questions. Not enough atheists out there. If you choose to keep the faith that's good too but always believe on your own terms like that, don't live up to the lamb analogy. And I know, I had to go to church once, I snuck a Gameboy in though, I was like 10.

That's partly what's wrong with the Bible, it can be interpreted however one wants.

As far as you believing in your own religion, that's 100% fine with me.

I'm usually pretty tough on religion as a whole, but I think I'll act like the voice of reason here.

The people who commit these attrocities and make these claims are just that...people. They're interpreting something that's supposed to be peaceful into their own twisted world view.

If you want to take your own message of peace and love from the bible, that's great if it works for you. But speaking as an atheist, please, keep it to yourself...we don't need someone else on a conversion kick.

You must understand that Christianity is a very aggressive religion that for the most part took the world by employing punitive means. It persists through its devotees fearing to have a mind of their own, lest this "God" they worship, punishes them for not toeing the holy line.
Many of these people are not very nice and will wish ill on their fellow man, just for having his own viewpoint.

I am often told I will burn in hell because I gave up Christianity and follow Pagan / Spiritual beliefs.

I love God with all my heart, and sit on here for hours trying to convince people that God is worth loving,is kind, benevolent and is love without end, yet these Christians and their vengeful, spiteful and cruel God, wish I would burn in hell.
I don't know what kind of God they do worship, but he appears to have all the qualities of a guy with horns.

My beliefs force me be to be kind in deed, word and thought AT ALL TIMES, not just in church. Often I fail with the thoughts and these are recorded on my soul to be reviewed after I pass over, when I come to review which lessons I failed to learn and will need to repeat.
Some of these Christians think they can behave shockingly during the week, go to confession and be absolved of their sins.

I'm afraid they are in for a nasty shock.

I will repeat for you what I say often, it is a quote from a very high spirit guide called Silver Birch, who was a former Red Indian.
" THERE ARE MANY PATHS LEADING TO THE KINGDOM OF GOD, IT IS FOR THE INDIVIDUAL TO DECIDE WHICH THEY FIND THE MOST COMFORTABLE".
In other words, follow your own heart without fear, for you are truly a divine being whichever path you choose.
It would be wrong of me to try to convert you as Pagans, Wiccans and Spirit hold this to be interfering with your free will and this would break one of our most devoutly held laws.

Listen to your own heart; for the answer to your question lies within.

I would suggest you read your bible and pray for understanding and truth in the name of Jesus Christ.

Not my will but thine be done.

I don't mean this in a negative way, I think it will help you understand what a true Christian is, not what one isn't.

God said" where one or more gather in my name," so if you believe you don't have to attend church if you choose not to.
