Why is it that in the United States, particularly in Southern California, a Caucasian individual, such as myself, cannot speak on the issue of illegal immigration without being labelled a racist? Has it not occurred to those who support rights for ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS that they are supporting rights for FEDERAL CRIMINALS? I am not opposed to Mexican immigration, so please do not label me as a racist, I just want them to do it legally. We are swamped in SoCal already, with illegal immigrants taking advantage of welfare, emergency rooms, etc. Don't you think that, as American citizens, Caucasians should be able to speak out against something like this without being called racist, as long as they use logic and not race based hate?

perhaps the whites did do the same thing to the Natives...to be fair though, I am also native and do not appreciate generalizations. that being said, when the whites came to america, there no laws in place. so in that respect they were not criminals, unlike those who cross the border illegally. i do not agree with or condone what happened, but the situation was different.

Unfortunately your position/rights on the issue are being obscured by millions of people screaming "LET ME IN GODDAMIT!", and the politicians are listening to them 'cause newcomers are an easy mark for their crap...

Here are my responses to your five talking points. 1. – No person is illegal. Illegal is an adjective for behavior, not an individual. If you are able to attach illegal to any person violating a law, whether federal, state or local, then there are many more illegal people than just the immigrants. 2. – The way I understand it, many of the undocumented immigrants’ children are US citizens by birth. So the vast numbers being quoted by public office seekers are skewed for sensationalism. An undocumented immigrant does NOT qualify for public benefits (education & emergency care excluded). 3. – This country does not know poverty. What poverty there is can be addressed. The economy in this country is such that anyone who WANTS to work can find work. There is NO excuse for unemployment in the US today. Maybe there are people that feel above the jobs available, but that is no excuse for unemployment. 4. – This is goes to you. I cannot argue with you on this one. You are correct. 5. – One of our most renown American icons – the Statue of Liberty boasts the following words, “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-toss to me. I lift my lamp beside the golden door!” How much more patriotic, my dear James, would you have us be?

I totally agree with you, but Caucasians did the same thing to the Indians way back. You cannot cheat people and expect for there to be no consequences. The illegals are just doing to you what your ancestors did to the Indians. No matter who you are, you cannot escape karma and fate, they are the great equalizers of life.

It isn't about race. Just because most of the violators of a law are from a certain country, doesn't make evenhandedly enforcing that law discriminatory.

My thoughts exactly. However, its easier for others to cry racism when they don't want to participate in an open-minded discussion or have a rational answer.
