First of all, if people tell you to just get over racism, they are not too bright, so I wouldn't recommend that you imitate them. If they tell you to try and rise above the meanness that is in some people, I think it's good advice. Try to be the best person you can be, regardless of the color of your skin, and your life will be better.
Being black and being gay are NOT the same. A gay person can easily hide his identity, but few blacks can "pass" for white. I do think that getting in everyone's face with your sexual preferences is rude, whether you are gay or straight. That isn't like what race you are, it's behavior rather than genetics, although I don't think people "choose" to be gay either. I don't care what gay people WANT to do, and I don't care what they DO, I just don't want to watch them do it. I also don't want to watch straight people either. I think people need to develop some sense of privacy about their private lives. I don't like Rap music for the same reason--it's gross and I don't want to hear people talking that way about each other. Both the violence and the attitudes towards women offend me.

Your post is really indicative that you have no understanding about gay people. Yes the comparison can be made that basic civil rights issues are similar because of race and sexuality, but that is where it stops.
You constantly have to listen to them? Do they come to your door and knock? No, not every one in the world wants to be a black man. But everyone does deserve to be treated with the same respect and rights they expect from others and the government.
Your sick of gay people blaming straight people for their problems? Hmmmm, sounds like you really do not have a clue.
One might assume being a minority in this country you would understand basic civil rights or the fight to obtain them. If wanting equality is complaining, then I guess that is what Dr. King was doing.
There are plenty of gay people who don't complain about anything, just deserve and expect the same rights as you do. If I said things to you being black, it would be racist, but you can make a statement like this about a culture and it is okay? What is wrong with that picture?
Go complain someplace else, your argument is weak, illogical and indicative of narrow minded thinking. Oh and by no means am I a racist, so get over it, people are people !

Personally, I agree with you. It has nothing to do with me that there's racism or discrimination out there, as I do neither. However, to answer your question, I think it is because "Black" people have been openly fighting racism in the popular media for about fifty years now, and they are now better represented in all aspects of media (movies, TV, etc) than any other "minority". So I guess the feeling is "Okay, you've won, now shut up about it." Gay people have only been actively been fighting in pop culture for acceptance for about 30 years or so, and only seem to be gaining any ground in certain fields (like fashion). So I suppose people aren't quite sick of the "We're here, we're queer, get used to it" speech yet. I'm sick of both. We're all people, I don't care what color you are, or who you think is attractive. It effects me not at all.

A gay person does not, and I repeat, does not have the same struggle as a black man. I am a black woman, so I know how it feels to have to strikes against me, just for being born female and African American. Being gay is a Choice. I have love for everybody, gay or stright, or whatever, but when asked if the black man and gay have similar struggles, I have to say no. Both understand how it feels to alienated, but one person who is gay and white, may have better opportunities as far a career goes, than a black man. A black man may have to struggle harder because of the color of his skin. Sad.

Because gay people don't have all the rights that black people have earned. Legally, black people have all the same rights as anyone else, and then some. Gay people do not. They are STILL being oppressed and discriminated against by the LAW. You are not. If Martin Luther King had stopped talking because people were "sick of hearing him," where would you be right now? Don't show your ignorance. I feel no pity for you or your petty crap.

You were born black and those who are gay were born gay!! (atleast from my beliefs) GET OVER IT, I say, SERIOUSLY!! I'd like to think id get somewhere by whining about my legs not being longer to make me a better basketball player or not being richer to pay off my debts caused by unfortunate circumstances. Life is what it is and we ALL deal with issues, not just black or gays, so lets all be human for once and throw the whole racism issues out! Make the best of life that you have, when your gone, it wont matter! We all bleed red blood, last I checked! :) My 2 cents about racism!

I think that whoever gets discriminated now, in the present, should talk about it and I don't see a reason to shut them up, they're just trying to fight the discrimination. But when somebody isn't being discriminated anymore I don't see the point in complaining about it now, it's a matter of the past and it's time to move on. I'm not saying that it should never be brought up at all, it's good to remember the past, but there's not a reason to talk about it all the time or complain about it now, it serves no point.

Here is a peaceful response from a white man. You are a man, just like me. If you look different, that doesn't make you better or worse than me. If anyone tells you that it does, don't listen to them. They are not telling you what God wants you to know.
God loves us all and we should love each other the same. If anyone at work talks down to you, report them to your manager. If that doesn't work, talk to their manager or owner if you have to.
If you are having trouble getting respect and equal consideration from others, if you are being ridiculed or teased about your differences, if you are listening to criticism that is unfair, untrue and inappropriate and it makes you feel like less than a person should....that is how bad it would make a gay person feel if you talked down to them.
Don't make the same mistakes that others make toward you. It makes you just as bad.
Be a leader! Be the mature one.
Peace to you always

You can say whatever you want, this is America. But, what separates good humans from those who are less respectful are our actions. Knowing wright from wrong. If you feel a sense of entitlement to say hateful things just because you are black, now that doesn't make you any better than those who make disrespectful comments to you. It;s not easy taking the higher road, but when it's all said and done, don't you want to be known for being a kind human?

white people just dont understand how it is being colored. you can hide being gay bt you cant hide being black and the fact is it is hard for minorities to get the same oppurtunities in this country. To proove racism is stille out there all the minorities are going to agree with you while all the whites are gonna say your overreacting and stuff like that dont happen no more. And its bullshi t chuz it does happen.

I think I read your other question and the response that inspired this question, and I have to agree, that person was out of line. We live in a tough period where when we are offended by someone else's actions, we're told to shut and deal because to argue wouldn't be politically coreect. However, we can't move backwards into segregation because I'm sure you realize that it causes decades of hurt for future generations. People just need to be more aware and consciensious of others feelings.
It's unfair to compare the lifestyles of homosexuals to african americans, because clearly they aren't related, as it is unfair to blame caucasians for the narrow-mindedness of their ancestors (as long as they aren't showing the same like-mindedness...)
anyways. You're not out of line with your concerns, and not alone in thinking them...unfortunately there's no easy way to handle them.
I hope things work out with your sister
