...that homosexuals try to validate their own sin by attempting to use the Bible to justify it? Case in point, this link: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=Aj0HPi5VlsD.Lkt0iuXsg8Dsy6IX?qid=20060808073120AAyj6FD . This question had many references to the Old Testamant as well as many answers, my own included. The one chosen as best is once again, not the truth, but what this person wanted to hear. So to clarify my question: "Who else is offended that homosexuals use the Bible as ammunition to defend their own choice, and it is a choice, to practice sexual deviance?"

I was hoping those naysayers would have seen that I did not reference not one Bible passage. Some say Jesus never said anything about homosexuality, therefore he must have endorsed it. Sorry, that is not the case. The apostle Paul wrote these words below.

1 Corinthians 6:9-11
9 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, 10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God.

So, now I used a scripture reference. Also, I am not judging anyone, that is for God solely to do. Some others have said on here in response, "Well, why not? Others have used it to justify other atrocities in the past, why not this?" If you can't see the wrongness in that statement, I guess you never will. Good answers all. I'm glad this has gotten such a response.

I agree - if you are a homosexual - fine, but don't try to find ways to justify it by a book that clearly does not.

*By the way - this question shouldn't make people think you're a bigot. Just because you may not agree with a lifestyle doesn't mean that you are a bigot - it just means you don't agree with it. Just as one of the people who answered previously didn't agree with you.

Does it matter gays defend themselves with a bible?

The bible has been used since its inception as a way to defend a cause or inspire one. Do not forget all of the raping and pillaging that went on during the crusades =) Do not forget the spanish inquisition =)

Religion has been used as a shield in the past and will continue to be used in the future. It is a wonderful tool to galvenize the faithful towards a common cause, regardless of whether or not that cause is moral or just.

We all know homosexuality is wrong or there would not be such an association with shame attached to it. Do not look to the bible for examples of being gay, because that book was written by men who are easily influenced by other men, not to mention the culture that they were raised in. Look instead to nature for examples of homosexuality. You will find none, because it is NOT NATURAL.

Being gay is as natural as beastiality or pedophilia. The only reason it is accepted is because we are a democracy, and as such we represent the wishes of many different groups of people, even if they are undesirable. In the old soviet union people who were found to be gay were sent to the gulag.

Just a thought =)

Your attitude is offensive. The question you cite - which was originally a letter addressed to homophobic advice-giver Dr Laura - makes legitimate points. Christianity uses the OT only when it wants to beat someone over the head with it - otherwise it's ignored or dismissed as "that was then, this is now" and "Jesus changed all that."

In Judaism (the source of the OT) there are those who believe that the traditional laws against homosexuality originated in a more ritual context, since, for the most part, the word "abomination" was applied in the ritual sphere of life rather than in the ethical.

The Torah seems to see homosexual relations in a cultic context rather than something more parallel to the interpersonal context of heterosexual relationships.

Jewish tradition, including the Biblical prophets, makes no reference to homosexuality in the "sins" of Sodom and Gemmorah and actually identifies the wrongdoing as cruelty and lack of hospitality to the "stranger" - xenophobia, as it were.

Reform Judaism views the traditional prohibitions against homosexuality as mores from a bygone age -- mores now replaced with clearer understandings of the reality of gender orientation as something which is beyond simple individual "preference." Jews no longer see it either as an abomination nor as mental illness.

As a whole, the Reform Judaism Movement, both the "lay people" and the rabbis, have come out very strongly in favor of civil rights for gays and lesbians.

And Paul - from the NT - is now considered to have been a homophobe and closeted homosexual.

Get off your self-righteous soap box and stop being selective with your Bible verses. Well, what is the answer? Why do Christians quote Leviticus about the sin of being gay, but all of that other stuff in Leviticus has no merit? What is this? Designer Gospel?

I suppose we should all join your churches -- where there is NO welcome mat -- and be brainwashed into believing in fables and giving away all of our money so the minister can drive a big car.

If you want to be part of a religious group that spreads bigotry and intolerance, that that is your choice. Some of us are interested in having an open mind.

And you know that King James Bible that you love to quote? It might interest you to learn that King James, the King who was responsible for this book, was a HOMOSEXUAL. You can thank a gay man for the very Bible that you love to thump.

I thought that it was clearly stated that being homosexual was a sin. So how can they try to use the Bible itself to justify their sexual orientation? As closed minded as the Church is, why do we have gays and lesbians asking for forgiveness? I don't mind gays or lesbians what I do mind is the way some of them rub it in our faces. I don't go around parading the fact that I am heterosexual. To each is his own and let God deal with us when each of our times come.

That is very sad. In the Bible it clearly states that homosexuality is wrong.
Take Leviticus 18:22 "Don't have sex with a man as one does a woman. That is abhorrent." That goes for both sexes.

Homosexuality is a sin. Coming out of the closet is about as good as announcing to the world that you are into self pleasure.

Hehe....are you going to choose an answer that is what you want to hear??
I am not offended by homosexuals. What they do in the privacy of thier own bedrooms is none of my business, and neither is it any of your business!
What gives you the right to make your interpretation of the bible the "right" one???

What I find sad and disturbing is that with every post like this, you perpetuate the opinion that christains are closed-minded.
You choose to persecute others, will your god forgive ya for that? Maybe if you say "pretty please"?

I just think everyone should just do there own religious/philosophical thing like we are doing anyways, and don't worry about others' choices and nature. It's cool to discuss differences, but there is a more civilized way to talk to people. You know your question will offend many.

2006-08-08 11:24:44 · answer #9 · answered by Anonymous · 1 1

No I am not offended because I get what he is saying. We are no longer under the OT law, we are under the new command that Jesus himself said was the greatest law above all and that is to love God, love others as you would yourself. Well if you love as you say you do you wouldn't commit the Ten commandments because they hurt others. Even down to the littlest things like spreading gossip or slander about someone. Homosexuality has nothing to do with our external holiness because God looks at the heart not what we do or don't do. If you love God than He will see that, not us. Love that person, not condemn him.
