You asked if I had a personal stake. First of all, there isn't one U.S. citizen who doesn't have a personal stake, starting with Native American Indians (who by the way had terrible immigration policies) right down to the high school graduate who refuses to work for minimum wage in the fields or change sheets in a motel or work hard enough to learn how to frame a new home.
We live in the desert, about a mile off the highway. A high voltage powerline runs parralell to the highway about 800 yards from our house. I drag the roadway that runs under the powerline by pulling a 6x8 foot piece of chainlink fencing behind my ATV. About every other day, this "smoothed out" pathway is full of human tracks of all sizes. Periodically, I find tire tracks as well, and huge piles of clothing, shoes and backpacks discarded by the coyotes who transported the undocumented Mexicans to this area. From here, they arrange for different transportation, or some of them walk to the nearest big cities etc. I'm convinced that it is only my two large outside dogs that keeps us from having regular visitors. And yes, we have given aid -- water on several occasions and once bandaged up a young girls feet and gave her a pair of my wife's tennis shoes. I always tell them that I am calling the border patrol so they can give themselves up if they want to. And I do call. Usually from my cell phone right on the spot. Sometimes the border patrol comes, sometimes they don't. Sometimes the starving and thirsty people wait right there for the border patrol. Sometimes they continue walking. This is a very serious issue on all levels.
As long as our civic leaders and elected officials defend the wealthy businessmen and farmers who employ these hard working people, we can never stop them at the border. One of the answerers suggested that the problem is a GOP conspiracy. Maybe it is. But for sure, economics are at the root. As long as the mega corporations make huge profits by outsourcing their manufacturing, and as long as U.S. located companies can increase their profits with the use of cheap labor, we will have an "immigration problem."
This is a matter of international politics at its highest level, and economics 101 at the base. There are also racial issues (meaning rascist attitudes) that interfere with real long term solutions. When the English first arrived, they referred to our American natives as savages and tried to keep out the Shanty Irish, then the Bohunks, then the Waps, then the Jews, then . . .
So, yes, I have a personal stake in the immigration issue. And so do you.

Yes. I was planning on hiring a live in housekeeper. Will not be able to afford one now. I am not kidding. I used to go through Catholic charities for my hiring. They provided good workers. I would pay them $500.00 a month plus room and board. It was a good deal all around. They had no living expenses, so all the money was theirs to keep (not a lot of us have that much money left over after paying all our living expenses). But, now that I won't be able to hire immigrants, I will be unable to afford one, which will mean more work for me and less family time. Kind of sucks, but I understand. I prefer that laws be enforced, but I guess I was kind of hypocritical in that one. I found the Mexican ladies to be the best. Hired one form Honduras once, and she was lazy (sorry if this sounds harsh).

as an American who cares about the survival of the country and its
right to enforce ALL its laws
I feel as though I have as personal stake in this struggle as anyone.
Illegal immigration should be stopped, enough is enough
If you know anything about history, you will understand one thing
And that is that countries that have not kept their borders secure
have soon been overrun and been changed forever by invading masses of people.
That's the plain and simple truth.

Nope...
Sheesh, I hate illegal immigrants. Wth do they think they're doing? Why can't they just get in without any concerns like that. And if they can't, why not work towards it or get help? x.x

No and No. The illegal immigration "problem" is a facade put on by the GOP to turn heads away from the real problem of outsourcing!! IGNORANCE IS BLISS, AND THIS COUNTRY WAS BUILT ON THE BACKS OF IMMIGRANTS!!
