I would say 10 pieces of fruit, as someone else already answered. However, if you were to say that one apple equals 10 oranges, then it 5 apples and 5 oranges would be 55 oranges, or 5.5 apples.
I'm not sure what answer you got, but this is one example of a possible answer.

You can add 5 apples and 5 oranges together in a blender to make a fruit cocktail.

ummm the only way i can see this happening and by math ... because to add you have to had like terms and you can't add 5x+5y because you don't know the value of x or y lol â¥
