Praryerwarrior answered most of it for you ... most people do not know what agnostic is. Also, if I tell you I'm Baptist, there is about 80% that you know for sure what I believe, you tell me your agnostic, I don't know what that means for you. Most people fear what they do not know.

I'm married to an agnostic, and I can tell you that's it's probaly cause most people, on both sides of the fence, see agnostics as fence-sitters or completely lost at best, total milksop cowards at worse. The religious types see them as lost, and the atheists see them as non-commital wimps who want to be cool by claiming they don't believe totally in God but at the same time still want to be on the good side of the "enemy" i.e. religious people. That's how I've heard it put.

Honestly I think its an "across the board" reaction when someone states their religion or lack there of. There probably isnt a lot of people who when they hear what religion someone is, or isnt, doesnt pull up information from their mental database and think "that means......."

I get looks when I say Im a Christian, my friend gets looks when he says he is Jewish.. Im sure Muslims get looks when they say they are Muslims (in the US anyway) It's probably because everyone believes something, whether they are atheists, Christians, Agnostics or whatever and we hold our beliefs sacred. So when someone says they are different in that regard, we all get "the look"

There is a stigma against the non religious. Someone posted an article about it yesterday. I wish I had saved it. They think someone of a different religion is just following the wrong one while you are completely lost and a tool of the devil.

Something like that.

Maybe they don't know the meaning of the word, maybe you "wear" it like some wear their religion, maybe it's not an act, maybe it has nothing to do with your agnosticism-you might not be a nice person to know regardless of your belief/nonbelief system, maybe their "faith" is not that strong and your position makes them nervous about their faith, maybe it has to do with consumption of large volumes of liquid libations...

Who knows?????

And-other than posting a question-why should you care???

Better to be an apathetic agnostic

I like agnostics theyre smart. If its a christian or an athiest its probabaly because neither of them believe in a middle ground. youre either on thier side or youre thier worst enemy.

I don't know. They shouldn't. How you feel is how you feel. I think things happen in people's lives that determine whether they will or won't believe in god. I guess that thing hasn't happened for you yet but that doesn't mean people should treat you any different from how they would treat you before they know.

How are the words "Agnostic" and "Diagnostic" related? Thats the real mystery!

Because people are so clouded by their own view's on religion that it caught up in their own belief system and look down on what others believe. I'm Christan I don't look down on what others believe, but i don't want anyone to put my GOD or religion down, and if you do that for me I will do the same for you. wish you the best!

What people? If you're talking about Christians, they ALWAYS act funny when they find out you're not a zombie like they are. Don't let it bother you. Blessed be.
