Because we have a distorted view of it ... we believe that the world revolves around us.

Here's a quick test ... if you know someone who plans to visit Hawaii, ask them if they have any Hawaiian money, or if they know the exchange rate. (Not everyone will realize that Hawaii uses the same money as the rest of the USA, since it's a STATE!!)

Because, the powers that be have put geography early in the school curriculum. I believe I took world geography in 7th grade. Our History of the World class in 10th grade covered geography as well...I remember Africa being the hardest map to memorize.

Learn the fifty staes with word association. Ever hear the song "Fifty Nifty United States"? This is a good way to remember them. Whenever I had a problem with my grammar, I would remember the songs from School House Rock.

Because we are an isolationist country. Other countries don't matter to our government, so geography is not taught. Blame the system.
