Call your local humane society. If they have a vet there they may offer you a payment plan. If not they can tell you what vetsi n the area might.
Just a note: If he won't let you touch it it HURTS

Nobody has any money for the cat! And most of us have credit cards, friends or relatives with a little cash that we can repay. Some vets will take a small amount of cash and let you pay the balance later. As with any debt you should pay $5 or $10 dollars a month till you clear it.

If your kitty won't let you touch his paw he is in pain. It's about $50 to have a vet look at it. You may have to say no to x-rays and you can get some pain meds and watch it for a while.

Start a little "cat fund". Get a big jar and put some loose change in it several times a week. Put a picture of your cat on the jar. You owe him this medical insurance. Skip a few lattes or ordered in pizzas for a while.

Call around to different vet clinics, explain the symptoms and your financial situtation, and see what they tell you. Most will work with you financially or tell you where to go if you can't pay. Some will even give advice over the phone, I've gotten advice over the phone about my cat before, when he jumped up and grabbed a piece of a plant to eat, they told me exactly what to do. At the very least they should tell you what to do to make the swelling go down or what to check for, but you really should have him looked at. In the future, try to keep a little money put aside as an emergency care fund for your cat. And they do have pet insurance. Oh, don't listen to the person who said to let your cat out sometimes, cats who are kept strictly indoors are much healthier and tend to live longer. Good Luck.

He may have something in it, like a splinter and it could have become infected and that's why it's swollen. If you can get him to let you gently feel of it, you may find a place to release some of the infection. I know it sounds gross, but it will help if that's what it is. Buying an antibiotic ointment to put on the wound should help combat the infection. Neosporin or something similar. I would call around to the veterinarian offices. Explain your financial situation. Most will let you pay out an office visit. Good luck to you and your cat.

Severly swollen and he wont let you touch it means pain ! Dont let the cat suffer and take it to the vet! It isnt as expensive as you may think and well worth your cat's relief. Ask the vet about making payments, borrow money, anything but dont let you cat suffer. It could be infected from an insect bite, etc........

Call your local humane society and see if they can help you get treatment for him - a lot of vets will give discounts for people who don't have money, and some humane societies will actually pay for a vet in an emergency.

The two most likely things are that he's got an infection or that he's sprained his paw, but I couldn't tell you which is more likely.

my cat has the same problem, look for lesions around the face, ears, mouth etc.... is it throwing up at all? My cat's foot swells from allergic reactions, and mine is indoor also, best thing to do is grab your cat look at his foot, (get help) And clean it with soap and water, if it stays swollen you have to take it to a vet. Look in a phone book to find someone that'll work with you.

also is he licking it alot? That's an indication that it's bugging him.

Give your cat away to someone that can look after it. And someone that lets it outdoors once in a while. I'm not a vet, I can't diagnose your cat. But you do have a responsibility to it.

okay these answers that people are giving you are dumb. you obviously care for ur cat or you wouldnt be concerned. i would maybe let it slide a day or two if it has passed then good if not i would maybe put some ice on it and not let him on it much if possible but sounds like a minor problem so my guess is it will pass soon. good luck!
