The new UK CVF Royal Navy aircraft carriers, HMS Queen Elizabeth and HMS Prince of Wales, are expected to enter service in 2012 and 2015.
The design continues to evolve but CVF is expected to displace 55,000t to 65,000t, a size between the USA's 100,000t Nimitz class and the French 43,000t Charles de Gaulle class aircraft carriers, and three times larger than the 20,000t UK Invincible class carriers.
The carrier will have a maximum speed of 25 knots. At 15 knots the range is 10,000nm and the ship carries food, fuel and stores for an endurance of seven days between replenishments. Each ship will have a complement of typically 1,200, including 600 aircrew.
an article from navy website but this will show you how the new ones comapre. The one on the left is the Nimitz class(US)then the new British ones then the French and last it shows you the current British aircraft carriers lol.

Surely they must be redesigning docks to get these aircraft carriers in them because the water is too shallow. But they must know what they are talking about.
The Royal Navy invented the ramp so fighter jets can take off,the guy with flag telling the pilot when its good to go and the side deck that points in the other direction as you can see on my source so Britain has invented a lot of good stuff to do with the Navy and this is why we are the best.

Questions?? Yeah, lots! Like what answer are you looking for? There Numerous diferences between the two. Hell, a few hundred years worth. In todays world, the big differences is in size and power projection ability. The RN is smaller, has fewer bases, and lacks real fighters with the retirement of the Sea Harriers. The US Navy is designed for the cold war, fight everywhere concept. The RN with the loss of far off colonies is more of a NATO area focused force ( Falklands & Gulf aside). RN ships operate more independently. USN tends to operate in Carrier & Amphibious task forces of 5-7 Ships. Their ships are different as well. US ships are built arround the Aegis System. This Anti-air/ anti missile system was designed to counter the Anti ship missile threat of the '80's. The RN (due to less funding) have ships that while less powerful are better balanced in doing all missions. Not just anti-air. The RN's Royal Marines have a different power level and mission as well. The Royal Marines lack the Armor & planes of their USMC cousins.

The population of the USA is 5 times that of the UK
The land mass of the USA is 38 times that of the UK
.. but size isn't everything. Putting it simply, we found after trying to run the empire that it was more trouble than it was worth. It was also often an abuse of the rights of the native people. It took a while for us to realise though mind, but we've down-sized now! So it's over to you guys to spend your taxpayer's money & citizen's lives policing the world. It's not something which I think little Britain should concern itself with directly anymore - Britain is a small part of the EU now and if Tony Blair would stop pretending to be so important I'd be a happier person. If we'd kept out of the wars in the middle east like many other nations we'd be less of a terrorist target now, and have more money to spend on healthcare, education, housing, welfare, infrastructure, the environment etc. instead of troops, security, defence.
---
I had to look hard but I've found a practical advantage through the simple fact that HMS Illustrious is smaller:
HMS Illustrious (R06) can sail fully laiden in water 5m shallower than the John C. Stennis (CVN-74) aircraft carrier (!!)

The biggest difference would be The US Navy fights for the US and the royal Navy fights for Great Britain. They are both very powerful.

the us navy payed millions for development of a laser system capable of zapping missiles out of the air even though it will never work as it's gona be too big for any ship ( I know a consultant on that).
the royal navy are more sensible with their money cos the queen is tight.
but the us navy made the best film ever - topgun
