No, symptoms of (genital) herpes come and go with no set pattern. Before a flare-up, you may notice an itching, tingling, or burning sensation in the affected area, and there may be sharp pains in the pelvis or down the leg.
This is an STD where you are infected for life. You may go a long time symptom free and then it will flare up again. Be glad you went so long! Many are not as fortunate.

I got clinically diagnosed with herpes (type 2) about 3 yrs ago, when I was still in college and had a stupid one-night stand. I realize loads of girls say this, but I swear I had never done that sort of thing before.
