Of course there is absolute truth. Sadly, modern society has thrown this idea out the window for a culture that only recognizes 'my truth'. These people say that the truth is whatever you believe it to be. This is absurd! Truth cannot contradict truth. If one person says that 'my truth is that abortion is OK', and another says that 'my truth is that abortion is wrong'; they both cannot be true. Maybe neither of them is true.

These are but a few of the absolute truths that can be known through reason alone. Not all absolute truth can be known in this life, but much of it can - contrary to what our modern society will tell you.
Math is the easiest example to use. If 2+2=4 is true, then 2+2=5 cannot be. In fact, 2+2=anything-other-than-4 cannot be a true statement. Therefore, 2+2=4 is an absolute truth.

There are also moral absolutes. These are much harder to argue, but exist nonetheless. This is where the 'inalienable rights' in the constitution came from. The fathers of our great nation recognized moral absolutes as being 'self evident', just as 2+2=4 is self evident. Meaning that anybody can come to these conclusions through reason. This is not to say that everybody will come to the correct conclusion, because not every person uses right reason. Example; the absolute truth that 'all men are created equal' is 'self evident' to those who use right reason. Throughout the history of our nation, many have come to contradictory conclusions (indians, blacks, catholics, jews, imigrants...). Can any of these contradictory conclusions be true? The answer has to be no. Other conclusions about these groups which do not contradict the absolute true statemen can also be true (e.g.: indians and blacks are created equal), but the conclusion that European caucasians are created superior to indians and blacks cannot be true.

Wait a minute:
If I say "no, there is not such a thing as absolute truth", aren't I making an absolute statement about truth??

Interestingly enough, this question (posed as such) cannot be answered with a "no" because then whoever is saying "no" is making an absolute claim that there is no absolute truth.

Heh?

So... the arguments go around in circles and then I go cross-eyed.... so I don't really bother debating this anymore.

Cheers :)

Yes
Think it over if the answer was "No" then you would be asking an invalid question.
example
"No" there is no such thing as an Absolute truth.
The answer no is an absolute answer. Never means absolute,
an Infinite "NO".
So the answer to your question is "yes".
You will get it or you won't, if your interested in this line of logic then look to Aristotle's writings on categorical logic.
He will have better answers for you then I will.

Truth is based on perception. There is not absolute truth because from one perspective something could =A and in another perspective it could =B and both would be correct, based on their individual perspectives.

Someone can have an awareness of what rings true for them. As far as absolute truth, it is because of this that wars have been fought. The whole, we are right you are wrong view has caused wars.

Absolute truth can be dangerous to hold onto. If you think you have it then everyone else around you is wrong. That is not a good place to be.

Absolutely.

Absolutely. The truth is nothing but absolute. And false is an absolute, too. There is no room between true and false.

You may have insufficiant awareness to distinguish what is true and what is false, but they are both absolutes.

So if you're dealing with awareness, let's address AWARENESS, not REALITY (truth). They are two DIFFERENT things.

But here is a globally accepted statement of awareness. And it's held to be absolutely true.

I think, therefore, I am.

Yes. God.

I used to think that truth was relative, until I reexamined my beliefs and their implications. I then concluded that I couldn't believe the Bible if I didn't believe it to be absolutely true, and it couldn't be absolutely true if relative truth exists. I think that you can twist truth (and truths) to seem relative, and that certain situations can blur the lines, but when it comes to an ultimate foundation of truth, there has to be a solid and absolute one on which I base my life.

I don't presume my answer to be that articulate, and I'm sorry, but I do believe that God and His Word are the foundation of absolute truth agains which I have to judge everything in my life. If other people don't believe that, then I suppose they could quite convincingly - and even validly, on some level - argue that relative truth exists, rather than absolute truth. I mean, it makes me feel so pretentious so claim that "I'm right and you're wrong" and yet that's what I have to do when I base my frame of reference for truth on the Bible. Futhermore, it won't actually be truth to those who don't believe in it, though I also don't think that that reduces the validity of the truth itself. I'm rambling...

Yeah...I do believe in absolute truth. Do you (just curious)?

There are no ABSOLUTES in the Material or Physical Universe.
That it can be represented as a mathmatical concept,
i.e. 0 or 2+2=4 , doesn't make it an actuality. 2+2 what ? = 4?
Abolute TRUTH would have to exist as seperate from the Physical Universe...... and therein lies the truth.

that's why it extremely is termed the super Bang concept or the Evolution concept. that is not a hazard to coach it handed off, so it is going to not be able to be a fact, no longer to point an absolute fact. it extremely is extremely useful to take a seem at foundationalism, which claims that a concept is rational no count if it extremely is supported by applying good motives – that's, by applying different ideals that signify data for it. those different ideals, in turn, could be supported by applying good motives. so as to dodge a limiteless regress, foundationalism holds that there are some ideals or propositions that are person-friendly to noetic structures (concept structures). There are 3 such styles of person-friendly ideals: one million) propositions that particular a right away deliverance of expertise adventure (ie. there's a tree over there); 2) propositions that are incorrigible for me interior the experience that they show a directly state of my understanding (ie. I look to confirm a broadcast website); 3) propositions that are self-needless to say genuine to anybody who is conscious them (ie. All single adult adult males are bachelors).

Yes, there is such a thing but it is impossible for humans to know. I believe absolute truth is God but we are in a fallen, sinful state and thus cannot see Him or even truly know Him.
