I'm in NE Ohio and I remember the A & W's with the car hops on skates.Music blaring from the speakers outside. We loved to hang around there socializing with all our friends, eating great(greasy) burgers and fries with frosty root beers.Fast cars and good friends made those times best. I do remember see some Dogs & Suds pop up here and there in the 80's.At one place ,a D&S showed up at an old A&W stand. They got car hops and all. That didn't last too long. Then some pizza shop tried a go at it there.Didn't survive.I guess after the A&W it became a bad spot to eat. Another major hangout was a Manners Big Boy.It was right beside a major park where everyone hung out ate.A major plus is it was open 24/7 too.

30 miles away from me in Pine City MN there is still an A & W complete with drive in service. The hot dogs and root beer are still good.

Yea when I first moved to Florida in 1979, I went to a A&W Drive In, It was cool to see all the car hops, They went out of business in 1981 and I was really saddened by this. Remember Drive In Movies??? Those were the Days

Their root beer is the best! Frosty and creamy, a real treat! The root beer floats are even better! ^_^

Their Chubby Chicken and onion rings (mmmmm) are delicious too!

We still have A&W drive-in restaurants in Canada; there's one near where I live, in fact.

It's nice that we still have a bit of "living history" here.

that was good root beer. The one in my town shut down a few years ago. sad. the long john silvers has what they call A&W rootbeer, but (sigh!) it just does not taste the same as the old stuff did.
