Jesus’ comment: “What benefit will it be to a man if he gains the whole world [ko′smos] but forfeits his soul?” (Matthew 16:26) Clearly, Christ was not referring to a person’s ‘gaining the whole world of mankind,’ nor to ‘the whole world of people alienated from God.’ It was not humanity that a materialistic person might gain, but it was what people have, do, or arrange. This was true also of the apostle Paul’s observations about a married person’s ‘being anxious for the things of the world.’ Likewise, a Christian should not be ‘using the world to the full.

It is not the fact he exchanges it for anything - your Soul belongs to you while on this earth - after you die - your soul will belong to God or Satan - what the passage is saying is this - if you worked to have a happy life here on earth you can gain your goal - but your goal should be to gain everlasting life in Heaven.

all the things of the world we covet and desire...they have nothing to do with heaven and the blessings we will receive While seeking the truth, the goodness, the love, the forgiveness of Christ. notice how i say While, not *because*. sometimes people do "good things" cuz they think it will get them to heaven, or get them blessed..but that's backwards thinking. u are not truly doing things for the good, u are merely doing them for selfish reasons to gain, again, what is profit on earth. i believe that once u truly seek and learn and accept God's Grace, u will achieve a sense of peace and Joy of knowing you are forgiven of all things past, present and future. it will free your mind from punishment, from feeling guilty, from feeling not good enough. knowing u are forgiven will encourage you to Try to do the right thing, and seek the righteous path.. even after failure, or missteps, thru Jesus' sacrifice we can still start over and make good decisions without punishment. that is the path of Joy i want to find, not any earthly possessions that will have no meaning in our later life.

You want mine? You can have it. I never figured I had one, and never saw much use for one. since I don't believe in religious hooey, it seems it's not worth much compared to "the whole world" of profit a man can gain from it. Seems guys like Jummy Swaggart and Billy Graham have gained a world of profit on them,.so it must be worth something.
