Depending on who you ask, you get a variety of answers. They will range from Jesus being GOD, a Son of God, a Divine person, a Prophet, a good man or a complete Fiction.
I began as a youth believing all that the church teachers, preachers taught me. I progressed in Bible College and Seminary with the professors and Apologists affirming all that the preachers and Sunday School Teachers had taught.
After discovering that being a Christian was doing little to enable me to quit living the life of sin, which included lieing, stealing, covetousness, hatred akin to murder, and sexual promiscuity, I was desperate for some relief. A guilty conscience prodded me to continue to confession and more intensive study of the Bible, but nothing really changed. Finally desperation drove me to do something virtually radical, though not unheard of among many religious persons. I put a gun to my head and pulled the trigger.
That should have ended my misery as a Christian sinner, but what prevented my death, was the gun appeared to freeze up. The trigger would not release. I believe I heard then, a voice, quietly , "{Walt, this is not the way"}. And of course, it would have essentially been the final sin, murder of self, or suicide, doesnt give much of an opportunity for repentance.
Over a period of several years, I continued to try to improve my life, by working harder, studing more of the Bible, and going to church more and more....but the sin remained...and I finally came to the conclusion that nothing was going to remove my guilt or sin....
I finally began to study the Hebrew Bible, learning the Hebrew language and came to understand that, if a person truely repents of sin, and begins to live right, GOD forgives, but the consequences are still there. CHristianity seems to offer an escape from the consequences, but curiously, the Hebrew Bible contradicts this teaching. In study, I discovered that most of what the Christian Churches teach about Jesus, contradicts what GOD spoke to Israel and Moses, about everyone being personally responsible for his/her own sin.
I learned that the Christian scriptures, are indeed, a serious contradiction of the Hebrew Bible Torah, Tanakh, and with many false prophecies which are supposed fulfillments of OT prophecies, but which in fact, do not exist in the Hebrew OT Scriptures.
I learned that GOD had given to Noach, seven Universal laws for all of humanity , and that these Laws were part of the Ten Commands given to Moses along with 600 more INstructions to supplement the Seven Laws for Israel.
I studied carefully all the gospels, in the Greek Language and Latin Language for many years, and conclude with many scholars, that the NT is indeed a complete Fiction, adopting many of the same doctrines of Mithrism, the pagan cult religion that originated on the same Isle of Tarsus that Saul/Paul said was his birthplace, which goes a long way to explaining why Christianity has so many virtual identical teachings, including, Virgin Birth, 12 Disciples, a Eucharist, death and resurrection narrative as Mithrism was noted.
In short, the Jesus was a copy cat or replacement figure for the Mithrism leader semi demi god, Attis. That the name, Jesus Christ, is NOT a First and Last name....but rather that the Greek name, Jesus, is not Hebrew, though Jesus is supposed a Jewish person. The supposed name, CHrist, is a Greek word, meaning Anointed. It is derived from the Hebrew word, Moschiach, which also means Anointed, or Deliverer. Such is the routine use of the term Jesus CHrist, most people, unknowingly think that Jesus had a real last name,,,which isnt true, no more than is any of the rest of the NT true.
There is no real historical evidence that Jesus was a real person, nor is there any historical evidence for the real existance of Mary, Joseph, or any of the other disciples.
NOr is there even one word of prophecy in the Hebrew Bible about a future messiah to be named Jesus.; NONE.
On the other hand, there are several declarations in the Hebrew Bible, that forbid Human Sacrifice for any reason, let alone sin. The Hebrew Bible forbids following after any of the pagan religions, yet most of the doctrines of Christianity emulate the more popular doctrines of pagan religions, including, the Dec. 25 Winter Equinox, and Spring equinox festivals, celebrating the death of winter gods, and resurrection of the spring god/goddesses.
WHen I finally chose to reject Jesus, understanding that the heaven and hell created in the NT was FICTION,,,,my life changed. I could and have begun to actually quit sinning, and my consiousness of good has greatly improved. I now trust that GOD will reward my Righteousness, as the Psalmist David declared. Blessed be the Most HIGH GOD. GOD, yes. Jesus, no. Sincerely

Jesus is the son of God, in the old days people had to sacrifice animals to atone for sin, my guess is sin is very great, soooo God knowing best, made the perfect sacrifice, His Son, Jesus. Jesus, didn't have to allow himself, to be sacrificed, but being at one mind with his father, God, he didn't call down angels to save him from the cross. He bleed for our sin, so that we might still be able to come to the thrown of God, with confidence that Jesus blood covers and washes our sin, away. The perfect will of God is that all be saved, and none perish. I would say this would be his mission. He loooooooooooves us sooooooooo much!!!!!
