Cranberry Juice is just that, juice from cranberries. A juice cocktail means more than just pure 100% juice. It usually is a clever way to say this juice has sugar added.

The cocktail contains cranberry juice and other juices like grape. Pure cranberry juice is very strong tasting and most people can't handle it straight.

I think cranberry juice cocktail has either grape or apple juice added to it (like a "cocktail") so that you don't get that overly tart taste that you get with straight cranberry juice
