Check into local food pantries (usually run by local churches) or salvation army. They can help with food and clothing. But don't rely on them completely. There are also some Yaahoo groups where people ask for help with food, clothing and bills. Freecycle .org is good as well. (people advertise things they want to give away for free)
Sit down and write out all your expenses. Bills, credit cards, gas to get to work, etc. Look at where you can cut corners and stick with it. list your bills that can be eventually paid off in order from lowest total owed to highest.
Pay anything additional you can to the lowest one. As you pay the bills off apply the amount you paid to it towards the next bill along with the usual payment it gets. It will seem slow at first but speed up rapidly over time. Soon you will be paying the equivelent of the total amount you used to pay to all the bills towards one or 2.
If you have a lot of bills and some have jacked up the interest rates once you get a couple paid off you can rethink your strategy and maybe pay the extra towards one of the higher interest bills rather than the lowest owed one. This takes a little longer but will save you money in the long run.
Find some extra work for a short time and put all the money towards a bill. Can any of the kids help earn a little? I saw a 12 year old on TV that made 1,200.00 this summer selling lemonade! His secret? He wears a suit!
When all is almost finished save a little "stash" and treat the family to a much deserved treat like dinner out or a movie with treats.
Good Luck!

Call your creditors and tell them the truth if your behind. Most will be understanding and allow a few lapses. Go talk to a credit counsellor, they are everywhere. Consolidate loans and bills to pay less each month. Ask for Government assistance. Try the credit counsellors first, they will know the best steps to take.
